I might have to trade mine in for a pistol version in x39 to SBR.

coalbed, Midway sells them for a bit less when (not sure how much the normal price is, but the dealer price is $49.50/4), but they don't sell singles, you have to buy 4.

I'd like to have one of these but the huge magazine would get hung up on the truck window. So having one of these as a truck rifle is just plain counter productive. If there were short 10 round magazines I would be pleased. So it'll have to be an ak or sks or mini for me. I have ar's that work well but get too dirty to work in a couple of hours of hauling hay in our dust bowl like conditions.

I doubt you will find a better mag price than Czechpoint. As for the other issue, no clue, sorry.

Yeah not much can be said about the ar15 lacking in extremely dusty conditions. It is how it is.

I'm still interested in one, but how much will one of those set me back in US currency and how difficult would it be to import them to the US? If there aren't any major snags, we might be able to set up a group buy that would save everyone some trouble as well as a little on international shipping.

I like it. Might have to trade my carbine for a 7.62x39mm one to SBR.

I know rifle-pistols are mostly for show, but how are the ballistics on a barrel that short in those calibers? They only look about 3" or so shorter than the regulars, and the VZ is quite handy already. Does make me ponder getting mine cut down, though... I'd be far more tempted if the pistols were proportionately priced, though

It looses about 3.5in (or about 90mm). With the efficiency of the 7.62x39mm cartridge the losses are negligible, but the .223Rem./5.56NATO will suffer significant loss as a result (I prefer a 18in. or greater bbl for rifles in this chambering).

About the only thing that I don't like about it is the lack of a front-sight gas block, which would shave another 1in. or so off of the package...I might just wait a while and SBR the one I already have and do just that. It would end up costing a bit more, but I'd have exactly what I wanted.

I had chance to shoot "Ogar 22" -vz.58 with .22 adapter and vz.58 nade with .22 barrel - It was quite disapointing as I could not tell whether it fired or the cartrige failed to shoot - no recoil or sound after shooting full-auto vz.58 and .50 BMG rifle just moments before.

A little contribution. Rifle is currently at the gunsmith cause it had bad headspace. Sorry for the not so great picture.
The action was one of the first to come into Canada, chromed bore. 19" barrel for non-restricted status here.
Bought as a barreled receiver, threw a parts kit on it. Didn't realize till I shot it that the "as is" barrel receiver headspace would out of spec.
No harm, now I know to check that in the future.

Those mags look nice and handy, Id like to have at least 2 for short range deer and bench shooting. Im going to try it whenever I break down and buy some more mags. Right now I only have the 4 that came with it.

Bipod

Does anyone have the Czech bipod that clips to the bayonet lug? Or has anyone seen it for sale? Here's a pic of a long barreled VZ58 with the bipod.

coalbed, let me know how it works when you get the chance. Just keep in mind that shipping is pretty high at Czechpoint (for just a few ounces of parts anyway) and takes a while (so plan ahead).

BTW, I've never seen the bipod stateside, but I have seen it on photos of the LSW/LMG variant, and have to admit that it is a neat system, and makes use of a appendage that otherwise affords little utility.

I believe there's a bipod on Gunbroker for over 200$, if you really want one. It looks pretty crude, honestly, and doesn't seem to warrant anything near that price. I'd rather have one welded up from scrap steel and a Harris
