Congrats on your ROA score, GB is where I got mine, however I found it in the generic B/P pistol section, a blurry pic and no mention of it being a ROA, only a stainless b/p revolver that belonged to owner's late father. It was in great, possibly unfired condition, I quickly remedied the unfired part. Post pic's so we can see it.

Congrats!
I got my first ROA on GB...nice gun - stainless, 3 digit serial number. I routinely search GB for deals but I missed one recently...someone had an original Ruger cylinder listed with a $40 Buy It Now. Someone tried to underbid that low price and exceeded the reserve so he negated the BIN option. Last I saw the cylinder was up to $110 with 10 bids on it and several hours left before the auction closed. I've since added a brasser ROA to my collection. Wonderful guns! |

So a few days ago I log on to GunBroker
while I'm guzzling my morning coffee and I do an Old Army search just for grins.
I landed on a gun the guy had just posted, a blued 140-130xxx series pre warning pics looked good and it was only $295. BAM! Buy now! Just got it today and it's clean as a whistle, only found a couple of rust spots, did a complete tear down and clean up, the bore looks like it's been fired about a dozen times and well cleaned, the nipples were new and just finger tight, looks like I scored. ![]() Guess even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then. Congrats on the new toy in such great condition.
I'm surprised at how many ROAs are around that have seen little or no use. My first two ROAs showed absolutely no signs of having been fired and they were circa 30 years old. It's hard to imagine these fine guns not being shot a lot. And compared to other C&Bs the Ruger was rather expensive so they wouldn't be a casual purchase. Maybe they were gifts that just weren't appreciated. Jeff

Mine get used, and since I got the Kurst cylinder for 45 ACP for the first one it gets used a lot more, I hand load 185 and 200 plated in it with 4.5 to 5.5 of Bullseye shoots easy and real accurate

I got a chance to fire mine last weekend. I think I ended up doing 30 rounds, I was reloading between my wife shooting the rifle so I wasn't really keeping track. No problems whatsoever with jamming or cleaning, though it was definitely getting a bit rough to turn the cylinder towards the end.
I've been using the pre-measured blackpowder "pellets", with mixed results. Sometimes it seems to have no power behind it, just a poof with a lot of smoke and the ball just seems to roll out the end of the barrel. I'm not sure if it's just an inconsistency with the way I'm loading it (seating the ball too much? too little?), or lubing, or just bad product. I'd been covering the tops of the seated balls with bore butter, but once I stopped doing that it fired much more consistently, though I don't know how that could affect anything. CCI #11 "magnum" caps. Still had a blast though, can't want to go back! Also you can't tell in the pic, but I am wearing ear plugs and shooting at a target backed by dirt (no rocks!) about 50 feet away. Safety first!

I believe pellets are inconsistent all by themselves. A bit of oil from the hand, cracks in the structure, even inconsistent construction (compression during formation). They seem to be quite susceptible to a number of problems resulting in variation in results. IMO.
I don't see the Bore Butter being a cause. |

pistol pellets
They are better left stored in the original jar tightly closed. They are consistent if not contaminated as mykeal says, when you buy a jar make sure they haven't been previously opened..........They are light loads for the r o a . oh yeah me and maw want into the R. O.A. club.........

Thanks ClemBert, but I'm already member #57! I put some nicer pics up on a previous post.
I'll try to get some better ones next time I go out, I want to get a super-high speed shot with a nice fireball. |

Was bitten severly by the ROA bug. Finally picked up a stainless beauty the other day for a song. Can't wait to shoot it. Kindly count me in as a member of the club.

My recently acquired '76 vintage ROA purchased from the orig. owner. Only fired a few times back in the day and stored since. I took it to the range with some home rolled paper cartridges and had a blast!
