I was quoted a price by Ruger for the factory cylinder by one rep on the phone in my first call and then the rep on the phone for my 2nd call said...."the techs will go over the gun and call you with the price". If things go awry with Ruger i think that Classicbalistx may be the route i'll go. Or not....... I have a 7.5" stainless ROA and it's cylinder drops right into this 5.5" 'er. I can only shoot one gun at a time. Unless....

That is a beauty, Jim. I had a local pawn shop try to sell me one that was identical to that one, except for the box, nipple wrench, and manual being missing, and not having the conversion cylinder. Plus, it was VERY obviously used. Very noticeable drag line on the cyl. BP fouling in chambers. Bore Butter residue from lubed felt wads in the barrel.
They had the nerve to tell me that it didn't appear to have been shot at all. THEN, they had the balls to tell me I could have it for $900.00. I let them keep it. Didn't want it that badly. I could just about get 2 brand new Blackhawks for that. I ended up buying a Blackhawk and a Single Six, from two other stores, for a lot less than that. $350-you made out like a bandit. I bet those bills got scorch marks from you whipping them out of yer wallet so fast.

I didn't like the fit of the grips to my hand when I got mine (post #773) so after a couple false starts (i.e. I screwed them up) I finally made a set of grips that fit my arthritic hand. A little thicker than factory but feel pretty comfortable for me. An oil finish so the scratches in the future will be easy to take care of. Wood used was padauk.

In reality, at least in my mind. i paid a fair price.I just cannot justify those high prices that people are askin, and payin for these.I'm not done payin yet tho. I still have to pay Ruger for the cylinder and anything they find wrong with the gun.It does have a bit of a hammer issue but nothin to prevent it from workin and workin safely, but, we'll see. But, as J-Bar said, in the end i'll have a good ROA with an R&D for the price of an ROA alone.

A Brit in France who just loves ROA's... (and other BP revolvers!)
Hello ROA friends across the pond. I attach a photo of my current 3 ROA's. They're quite standard, respected and used.
I have owned about 30 ROA's, but never more than three or four at a time. The most beautiful, or unused, examples have always been sold to friends and acquaintances... but I keep looking. Although I have a varied collection of European firearms, BP revolvers are my pleasure, the ROA in particular. Best wishes to you all from Normandie, France. |

Hello Calvados
I never realized there were differences in the ROA's like you have pointed out. Thanx for that info. I'll have to compare some of mine to see what they are. It is great to have and meet ROA and C&B enthusiasts from every where around the globe. Hope you decide to stick around and join the fray of 'sooters'.

Just out of curiosity....once becoming a member of the ROA Club would you always be a member even if you sold your ROA? I wonder how many members we have listed who are in between ROAs right now.
I remember when I was in the local Corvette club we had Corvette-less members who did have a Corvette when they joined but sold it but were in the hunt for their next one. |

How many members started off say with a blued 7.5", adjustable sights and then decided it be nice to have another for two fisted shootin', then saw a SS version and had to have that one, then realized they needed a 5.5" with fixed sights, but what's a 5.5" with fixed sights without a 7.5" with fixed sights as well? Then of course you always need to have at least 2 of each configuration to keep up with the two fisted shooting. You need a 200th year in stainless, and another blued, you gota have a brass grip frame, you need aluminum and steel grip frames to compare, you need a few new in box unfired specimens to set aside since they're no longer being produced. You need some customized pieces as well. I wonder how many members have ROA OCD, and will never stop buying ROA's and never plan to let go of a single one. It would be interesting to know which direction is more common among the members. To get out of ROA's permanently or temporarily, or to dive in so deep you're lost in your ROA's forever. I guess it's possible there is actually someone who bought 1 ROA liked it, and kept it, and was satisfied. The End. |

I did, then I bought no more ROAs, would like to but a few 1858 NMAs came along. Then a Howdah. As much as I'd like a 5.5" a couple of double guns are next. 20 gauge and 50 cal. or maybe just build me that drieling I've always wanted.

I treated "Brownie" to some new grips from gungripsupply.com.
The stock rosewood grips started looking bland.

I finished her. It was a lot of work.
The checkering feels good. It doesn't bite the hand. This is my favorite of all the guns I've owned. |
