Your gun was probably made before the 1968 Gun Control Act required serial numbers on all shotguns.

Without a serial number, it is impossible to date it, but if it doesn't have a serial number, it had to before 1968.

Even if it is more recent and has a serial number, I know of no serial number reference for Savage-Springfields as there has never been any collector interest in them.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
Or all your primers in a glass jar!

I dunno..

I did a quick search and came up with a list of date codes for Savage shotguns. There may be a letter code on the bottom of the barrels or someplace to compare to this list.

Maybe, maybe not..

A 1949 B 1950 C 1951

D 1952 E 1953 F 1954

G 1955 H 1956 I 1957

J 1958 K 1959 L 1960

M 1961 N 1962 P 1963

R 1964 S 1965 T 1966

U 1967 V 1968 W 1969
