Sure. Here, for example, you buy a gun in Superior Wisconsin, but live in Duluth, Minnesota. The two cities are less than a mile apart, just a bridge away, but the sales tax is less in Wisconsin, so they send it over to Duluth to an FFL for pick up. I'm sure there are a lot of such circumstances.

I find the 642 great for belt carry in a Galco IWB holster made for a 640; just hefty enough to remind me it's there but not too heavy that it pulls down my belt. I think it fits in my pocket about as good as my LCP does. The LCP is flatter but the cylinder on the 642 is not a problem if you're a big enough guy with deep pockets.

I put 100 rounds through it today and it isn't comfy on the hand. But it's for jamming in someone's gut in a fight, not for shooting over and over. Something took a chunk of skin off my trigger finger. I think the trigger was pinching a bit of skin each time after firing.

I had to aim low with this gun, unlike my others where I just bisect the target with the sight picture.

Mance..I used to do the same thing. I'd pull the trigger more quickly until I felt that click then concentrate on the shot. I was teaching myself a bad habit by staging the trigger pull and I quit doing it. I think you'd be better served by practicing a steady pull and letting the shot surprize you. Just my two cents.

That is normal for the 642 trigger. As you have discovered you can 'stage' the trigger to adjust you aim and it is similar to shootinig an SA.

I've had this gun for years, and really love carrying it. It's very accurate. Not a lot of fun to shoot with heavy loads, but I usually use some mild target loads and have a lot of fun with it and my Detective Special shooting them. Heck, I'll throw in a gratuitous Colt shot just for giggles:

The other day I noticed the forcing cone on my 642 was a little rough looking. I got out my model 64 S & w for comparison and there was a big difference. The 642 cone looks like it wasn't finished very well. The cone is slightly wavy looking at it in profile. The top of the cone does not protrude as much as the bottom. The face of the cone looks rough as well. You can just see scratches where it looks like it was cut at the factory.
I've had less than 100 rounds of plain target ammo through it. No hot loads or anything. Is this worth checking out or am I turning OCD? LOL

Edit. The waviness is slight. There isn't an extreme difference in the top and bottom of the cone but enough that I noticed it with the naked eye.

How are the triggers on you guys' X42s? I've been doing a lot of searches comparing the LCR and 442 and the vast majority of people are saying the LCR trigger is superior, and some saying the 442 trigger is bad, terrible, or the worst some people have used. A lot of guys will say "You won't notice the trigger if you ever have to shoot to defend yourself" and that's all well and good but I intend to be able to put accurate shots on target quickly, and a good trigger is always better than a bad one. Thoughts? The ability to use night sights (well, one night sight) with the LCR is another selling point for me, but I could do without that lumpy plastic frame.

Dry fire a couple thousand times, instant trigger job. Mine is still heavy (like a snubby intended for pocket carry should be) but incredibly smooth. I actually prefer it to the LCR, which seemed "jerky" to me.

I've got the Crimson trace 305 as well and they do help. The beaten up trigger finger is addressed over the past few days on another thread. I recently bought a S&W mod 60 as a gun to practice with. It's very versatile and lots of carry over for my EDC 642.

I don't know why the trigger on a 442 or 642 would be different from one another. I know the 442 has a carbon steel cylinder and the 642's cylinder is stainless. Could this make a difference? The internal workings are the same. The only other differences are the finishes.

The trigger on my new 442 is very good. My wife and I have also been dry-firing with snap caps....she has no problem with the pull. But from the box, the trigger has been really good. Predictable and not sandy or sloppy at all.

I thought I'd just throw this out there. I had just received my Crimson Trace 405 grips and I have nothing but good things to say about them. I've yet to shoot with them on, but the extra cushion covering the back strap looks to be an improvement over standard boot grips. I'll probably be getting to the range sometime next week so I'll have a full report then.

Do you know if the CT 405's will allow speed loaders to be used, or are they too thick?

There are no clearance issues with CT 405 grips on a 642-2 and the HKS 36 Speedloader. There is however a slight clearance issue with the cylinder release latch, but you can still get over 50% of the cartridge into the cylinder prior to release.

I only use HKS or Bianchi Speedstrips so I can't address other Speedloaders.

Congrats on the CT 405s. $195 is an outstanding price, anyone considering these should act at that price level.

You are really going to like what they do as a recoil mitigation device.

Caution: When cleaning anything with laser lenses, make sure you don't get liquids on the lens. Take the grips off or make sure you cover the area. It is no fun cleaning oils off the lens, take it from me

Oils provide a diffusing effect that is annoying at best and probably diminishes the ultimate range effectiveness.
