John C. Garand Match, Palm Bay, FL
The January match at the Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol club will be held January 11, 2003.
Port Malabar Rifle & Pistol Club, Palm Bay, Florida Entry fee: Members $12.00 Non-members $15.00 M-1 Carbines $5.00 Rules: This match is governed by the rules prescribed by the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Only “as-Issued” U.S. M1 Garand; caliber .30 M1941 Johnson; and U.S. carbine, caliber .30 M1 may compete in the Garand Match, or any “as issued” U.S. or foreign military bolt rifle for the Springfield Match. These firearms shall be “as-issued” by their respective U.S. or foreign Armed Forces, or a commercially manufactured rifle of the same type and caliber, having not less than a 4.5 pound trigger pull (not less than 3.5 lbs for M1903 and M1941 Johnson), with standard stock and leather or web sling. Foreign military rifles may use U.S. military slings. Open to: Any citizen of the United States 16 years of age or older. Course of Fire: John Garand Match, Course B First Stage from 200 yards: Slow fire from prone, maximum of 5 sighter rounds with 20 record rounds in 25 minutes. Second stage from 200 yards: Rapid fire prone from standing, 10 rounds with magazine change in 70 seconds (80 seconds for bolt guns). Third stage from 200 yards: Rapid fire sitting from standing, 10 rounds with magazine change in 60 seconds (70 seconds for bolt guns). Fourth stage from 200 yards: Slow fire standing, 10 rounds in 10 minutes. Ammunition: competitors may use any safe ammunition. The 200 yard SR target, Rule 4-19, will be used on all four stages. A signed & notarized liability agreement will be needed for all competitors. This form is available at the Club’s gate house or via e-mail. The rules changed yet again?
No more 1903's or 1917 U.S. Enfields allowed for the John C. Garand Matches?
Boy, those of us who shot the 1903's and won some Garand matches must've really pissed off the Garand shooters! Explains the birth of the separate Springfield match, don't it? ![]() There is also a monthly John C. Garand match/Any Rifle Any Sights match held at the KARS Park range at Kennedy Space Center/Merritt Island. |
