Q?Your State Gives You the Right to Either OC or CC. Your Predominent Choice?

If it comes down to only one elective,I'm wondering what the majority of THR members, (the most worldly group in the world! ) would choose. We still have 6 states where OC is not an option and several others where a permit is required for either or.

Of course many factions come into play:Urban, suburban, rural, outback, etc. society.Of course, many, many integers are involved,I know that, living in Miami, one of Americas most complex, diversified communiies.

Whatever the case,I believe this is a look into our future of gun rights,THR. The currently running thread on OC in Elementary Schools shows us that dichotomy, the division even among stauch gun supporters. Thank you, tomrkba for that thread.

This question is based on you being ONLY ABLE to have the option. One or the other.

Your thoughts,comments,deliberations? Thank you.

OK, I'll start...

CC for tactical reasons, plus I consider it impolite to spook the herd, however unreasonable their hoplophobia may be.

I prefer CC but in VA OC is allowed.
Note, In Va you can OC without a CC permit.

Unless you need your gun for your employment, it is impolite to openly carry it. What I mean by that is, a gentleman would not open carry.

I voted OC. What other people think about what I do is no concern of mine.

I would prefer to CC, although my state, Kentucky allows open carry without a permit.

What gives you that idea?
In Wyoming it's either way, no permits needed for either.

I will continue to CC. I don't want to deal with the hassle of OC.

I answered your question with my second sentence.

I posted that because I really believe in the old school rules of a polite society and that open carry violates those rules. It is like wearing jeans to a wedding or a T-shirt to a funeral.

I am not saying it is morally wrong or should be illegal, open carrying is just not a statement about my manners I wish to make.

I agree with Cowboy. although,I can't in Florida,I would if legal. Many times I'm OC'ing on my property ,only to have to remember I can't cross that sidewalk onto the city line.(OC is legal in Florida on your own property),
Makes sense,right?

When I go to Arizona, Vermont,New Mexico,Pennsylvania,Utah,New Hampshire,I OC. Just have to remember the inane GFSZ', except in PA and NH where I have a permit.

It is all quite insane.

CC for me, because--
If someone has intent to do harm, I would prefer it presumed that I am unarmed.
If I meant to harm another, and I seen they had a gun, I would shoot them ASAP even I may not have, if I didn`t see a gun. Self preservation.
Besides, OC, it does "worry some folks".

True,John. Except remember ,only Wyoming residents can CC without a recognized reciprocity permit, unlike Alaska,Arizona and Vermont which have true Constitutional Carry.

I prefer cc the reason why is because a gun makes some folks nervous and what they don't see don't scare them into calling the police

Would you care to cite any sort of official "gentlemen's do and don'ts" regarding this? I for one think one's decision to OC or not has no effect on whether he is a gentleman.

Concealed carry during the summer time here is just out of the question.
I'd die from heat stroke anyways unless I used one of those fanny pack things while wearing shorts and a T-shirt...lol

No problem at all during the fall and winter though.
So I voted undecided...

I picked open carry because I might decide to take a rifle somewhere.

Living in Kentucky a CCDW license cost you some money but even though you can carry open here I much prefer concealed carry. If you can buy a gun here then you can open carry, no permit needed.

I agree. I've made more great friends because I am "NOT" politically correct, and don't give a rat's butt what other people think....lol
The people who shun me for that are generally the very same types of people I'd never need or want to be friends with in the first place.

Weird, because the states that have outlawed CC in the past, but allowed OC (Michigan for example) have done so because they believed it was everyone else's right to know if you were armed, and that criminals hid their guns to be sneaky.

I CC 95% of the time, but enjoy my right to not be anal about it being covered, or just having it in plain view. I'm lazy, so I'd have to pick OC.

I CC but Ohio is OC with no permit.
It's funny how times change. It used to be carrying concealed was considered sneaky and cowardly.

Concealed carry for three reasons. One, I don't want some punk trying to rip my gun off me. Two, I don't want people always calling the police on me for no reason. Three, if there is a murderous badguy around, I don't want to be target number one that he is going to try and take out first. If I'm concealed and some guy goes on a rampage, hopefully I can respond in time to save the lives of others, as well as myself.

I do like the idea of open carry as a political statement, as that can lead to opportunities to engage non-gun owners providing the OC'er is knowledgeable, polite and so forth. Once again, I wouldn't go that route, but for those who do and engage the public and leave a good impression on those they talk with, it helps improve the reputation of law-abiding gun owners.

I favor "casual concealment" = kinda covered up.

CC as 'your not that good"

I am sad to say that ANYONE that wants your gun will have a 99% chance of taking it IF you OC.

I have seen it done so many times that I dont argue the point with those that know how,and criminals practice more often than you practice weapon retention.

You can tell me I am wrong for as many reasons/excuses you can come up with.

I was a defensive tactics instr and I TAUGHT weapon retention for 22 years,I had my martial arts instructor take my gun at his whim EVERY time he tried.

Add to that the FACT that if anyone attempts to take your gun,you are now involved in a DPF [ deadly physical force ] incident.

If you win by using your gun ----- YOU LOST,as you will spend a great deal of money and time and PUBLICITY [ in front of cameras WITH your family ] to stay out of jail and prove your innocents.

Any way this happens is a loss you would have AVOIDED [ avoidance is THE best defense ] if you had CC'ed that roscoe.

I am sure others will disagree,I have been to court and I know exactly what will happen.

I will CC and good luck in not meeting that ONE that decided he needs your gun.
