Any Drilling/Combo Gun Shooters? - Page 3

Savage 24V: .223/20 gauge (the favorite)
Savage 24F: .223/12 gauge (screw-in chokes)
Both rifle barrels very accurate (MOA with irons); both shotgun patterns quite poor.

Looking for a 24 in .22LR/20 gauge.

Headed over to Gunbroker to see if any Valmet 412s are available.

I love my savage 357 over 20. Just a great shooting gun and quick on target.

i am way late on this thread ...

I have been thinking about a practical survival gun that would work for my family. Mostly a rifle for getting small game. I looked for Savage 24's on their Web page, but they appear to be gone.

Savage seems to have resurrected the idea with their "new" Savage 42.

So if anybody has one of these ... please post some feedback. I'm not sure why the 24 model is gone and the 42 has re-appeared ... but there must be a reason. I like the option for the 22WMR ammo, and my understanding is that the 410 would be OK for birds like pheasant, quail etc. (I've never hunted with 410). One big attraction with this rifle is that it is woman-friendly and kid-friendly ... most of my family is of the female persuasion.

I would not buy the new 24 series. It is well worth it to find an older one, as they are better made and just awesome guns

I picked up a #24 about 10 years ago at a hardware store, gave $40.00 for it. Its a .22LR/410, shoots good too ! Mine is an older model, has a "button" on the RT side of the receiver, for selector switch. Stock and fore end are beautiful wood, needed some TLC when I brought it home, about 4 hours of hand rubbed lemon oil later, really beautiful wood. I've been offered $300.00 for mine, no sale !
