Sort of. There are Vaqueros and New Vaqueros which look similar to a Colt SAA but operate differently. Then there are Old Model Blackhawks which operate the same but have adjustable sights.

What's wrong with the Cimarron?

I dont know really. I have heard mixed reviews on cimarron, and have always trusted ruger. Beyond that nothing craig do you have any experience with cimarron? they have a lot of options. The other thing is I have been under the impression that they are more for cowboy action type loads, maybe I am wrong though. They look frick'n nice though.

I have the Cimarron frontier in 45colt (made by pietta). The fit and finish is beautiful and it functions great too. I wanted the action of an original colt without the price of the original and it serves that function fine for me.

If you want more power than the anemic CAS smokeless loads, buy it in .45 Colt and load your ammo with a case slap full of 4f Swishigher precision s BP, or 3f 777.
The modern gun should easily handle hotter loads than the original Colt. Not because/just because of better available steel alloys, but also because of better control over heat treating processes, and precision machining available.

My Cimarron 1862 Police is sweet. Every Cimarron I've handled was sweet. I have no qualms about buying one.

I've got the Ruger New Vaquero in .357 mag and love it. Rugers are built like tanks and should last longer than we do. Also they stand behind their stuff. Excellent products.

Cimarron has good guns and they are well reputed. Uberti and Pietta both build excellent sixguns for the money. I own many of them, 3 Piettas and 9 Ubertis and they're all good guns. I also greatly prefer the traditional half cock action and if that's what you want, no New Model Ruger will do.

Cowboy loads are not even loaded to the .45Colt's anemic 14,000psi pressure limit. Most are under 800fps. Full pressure loads are going to run 900-1000fps, which is right at original blackpowder ballistics. Modern .45's can be run a little higher but a good 250-260gr cast bullet over 9.0gr Unique for 900-950fps is a great general purpose load.
