AZ:Yuma Open Carry, Sheriff Dept, honk and a friendly wave

I was out running this morning (missed a session yesterday covering the Phoenix Gun Turn in). I was open carrying, a habit I picked up during Desert Storm back in the 90's in Arizona, not the sandbox.

While running, I heard a short honk. I turned to see a Yuma Sheriff's Dept. truck going by and caught a friendly wave from the deputy.

Nice to be trusted by peace officers. In my experience, Sheriff departments are very supportive of armed citizens.

Wyoming is similar. All the cars on my street including mine got keyed, and the talk with my local PD ended up being 5 minutes about the car and 25 about their Kimber 1911 and HK USP .45 choices of duty pistols, with a third officer arrived and joined in to argue for his Glock 22. I even showed them my Berettas.

Proper policing.

I have lived in Yuma twice over the last 40 years and it's a great little town. The last time I lived there was about 5 years ago in a nice sub division off of 16th and Ave. C., that had a high rate of home burglary. Well I contacted the task force that handles that district, and the supervisor worked with me to help me patrol the neighborhood, and he even gave me his personal cell phone number and e-mail, so I could get a quick response by avoiding the "911" process. He would check in with me almost on a daily basis by phone, e-mail, and in person to see how things have been going, and to inform me of new developments. Myself and my Son's would walk the neighborhood in the evening hours wearing a SD shotgun sling-ed, and a side arm. One of my Son's would wear his AR. When we saw someone doing something suspicious, the task force would be on the scene in a matter of 2 or 3 minutes completely blacked out. LE was always friendly in this respect, and never gave us the usual crap about the do's and don'ts of carrying.
So yes, Yuma is a really 2A friendly town.

Lived off and on in Yuma 75-98 as an active duty Marine. Retired from active duty in Honolulu and it was an easy decision to settle in Yuma. Stayed there another 12 years and just 5 years ago moved further north for a job. I still hold a great deal of affection for that town and both the the city and county peace officers there and return every now and then to see friends (last time just 2 weeks ago). Enjoy the dove hunting in the Fall! When you go be sure to check out Sprague's Sports and hit "Ronnie's" for the best pizza East of Boston.
