thinking about buying a girsan 1911. any thoughts have anyone had any exp with one. is it worth messing around with it.

Considering one myself. They have good reviews but they seem to be new enough on the market that there just isn't a lot of information yet.

The "sport" model looks interesting, but I've seen them come with two different rear sight configs. One is more of a "GI" style rear and one is something that somewhat resembles a Novak-style rear.

Not sure which is newer but I'd like to get the Novak-esque one if I were to order.

Truthfully though to me the STI Spartan is looking to be worth the extra money. Factory adjustable sights with STI internals is just too good to pass up for the $600-650 price tag.

Girsan makes damned fine firearms!! All of the value, fit and finish, for half of the money and cost.

MKEK Girsan is a Turkish "state" arms producer. They provide/supply arms to the Turkish military, Colombian Air Force, Malaysian National Police and Spec Forces, Georgian Army, and formerly to the Syrian Army (no more), among others.

The barrels are cold hammer forged and the pistols are supposedly manufactured to NATO Standards. I am not exactly sure what NATO standards are, however, Turkey is a member of NATO.

I ordered mine from buds when they first got them but haven't had time till today to shoot. GET ONE!!!, I changed the grips and polished the feed ramp but that was it. The act mag it came with was all nosedives but with some kimber 7rd and a cmc 8rd power + it was perfect, smooth and accurate. I ran 400 rds today with no ftf or stovepipes, ran federal, winchester, tula, all was perfect. most was ball rounds but the win were flat like 40s. ran those fine as well. It definetly needed the polish job though. This gun is smooth, clean and accurate as hell even with the dovetailed gi sights. I wasn't going for accuracy but mostly just making sure the mechanics were fine, but the accuracy blew me away. If you can find one still get it. Girsans 1911s are seriously worth more than what their selling for. I don't know about customer service but really, who dosent mod their 1911s, just fix and replace as needed but mines perfect as is...well besides the grips.

I'm looking to pick up a Turkish made budget 1911 myself, but don't know whether I should go with a Girsan or Tisas. Buds sells both and both have excellent reviews.

Anyone know of any legitimate reasons to go with one over the other?

I recently shot a new Girsan MC 1911S

Put 150 rounds of 230 grain FMJ thru it. Flawless feed, flawless eject. Good accurate shooter. Fit & finish - excellent.

Five-pound trigger with no external safety makes it ill suited for its target market (cops who shoot a hundred rounds a year for qualification). Favored by gangbangers because the product name is short and rhymes with other short, rap-friendly words.
