U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) voted in favor of an amendment that would help improve mental health first aid training and increase the effectiveness of mental health care across the nation. The bipartisan amendment, offered by Senators Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Lamar Alexander (R-TN), includes key provisions of legislation Senator Ayotte helped introduce - the Begich-Ayotte-Blumenthal Mental Health First Aid Act of 2013 (S. 153).
"Our bipartisan legislation takes an important first step toward addressing gaps in our mental health system," said Senator Ayotte. "Given the connections between mass violence and mental illness, improving mental health training for those who work in our schools, communities and emergency personnel will give them the tools they need to identify warning signs and help individuals get treatment."

That's the responsible type of legislation that is needed to help actually address mass shootings instead of prohibitionists using mass shootings to turn law abiding voters into criminals.

Senator,

Thank you for your continued support for firearms rights. As a former New Hampshire resident, now trapped in Connecticut, it is encouraging to know that you are still in support of the basic human right of self defense, and all that it entails. As a member of the National Guard, I have sworn an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, which for all the debate these days is perfectly clear if one cares to read the Federalist Papers. As long as the proper context is respected, as you continue to do, I will remain confident in my duties and responsibilities. Unfortunately, your colleagues from Connecticut have not afforded themselves the same basic education.
