More than one 1911? Why?

So I did a quick search and turned up nothing on this topic. I have two 1911s and my wife wanted to know why I needed/wanted both. I have my eye an another one as well. I know why I have two but I pose this question. Do you have multiple handguns of the same make model and caliber? Why?

In 1911's I have a full sized and commander sized. Originally one was my duty pistol and the other my BUG. As it's developed, the full sized is mine and my wife has laid claim to the commander sized one as hers.

She is not, however, enthusiastic enough about 1911's to sign off on my idea to get a third and convert it to 460 Rowland for use as a bear gun.

There's good logic in having the same control layouts, common manual of arms, and things like that (not to mention common mags) for different guns if you have multiple roles you need somewhat different handguns for.

There are plenty of reasons to have multiple 1911s, there are many games you can play that have different rules that may require slightly different set-ups.
I currently have 4 single stack 5" 45 acps. one GI version, one alloy frame for carry, one Gold Cup to shoot service match and bullseye and a Les Baer to shoot other games.

They are like Chips you cannot just have one!!!

I have 3 1911's 5", 4.25", 4" in 45ap. All different manufactures.
3 Beretta 92's all different versions.
have several doubles (S&W Revolvers, BHP's, Ruger Revolvers, and I just ordered another Glock sooo add that one too...

Yes.
17 Makarovs. About 3 are .380.

A bunch of J Frame S&W 38 Specials.

About 5 1911 45 ACP.

4 CZ 83/82.

2 CZ52.

4 ATI 92C 9mm.

2 ATI 84 .380.

2 Ruger SR22.

2 Ruger LCP.

2 Ruger LC9.

2 Ruger SR9C.

And some others.

WHY?
Because I want them.

Well, 1 for Monday, 1 for Tues, 1 for Wed...etc....

When you get above 7:

1 for the first Monday of the month, 1 for the 2nd Monday, etc...

When you get above 31:

1 for January 1st, 1 for January 2nd.... 1 for December 31

Now, if you get past 365.... Get one for February 29th and call it quits

I bought all of my 1911 because they were very good deals.
I turned an AMY Hardballer into a 1943 SC 03A3.
I turned a POS Rem-Rand from [infamous importer] into a Camp45 carbine.

I've turned the lesser into the better (or more sublime)
Most of those I would up turning into desperate attempts to stave off foreclosure.

They all had reasons; Rare, longest-owned; EDC; different sizes.
I was taught to eschew Two-Gun Mojo, even if I had a couple of full-ambi examples.
Such it life.

Having seen a bunch of the Colt & Chhiapa .22lr at the Lewisville show on Saturday, I now want one of those (once I regain my financial feet). This may be due to having been thwarted in a quest for a reasonably-priced Ace back in the '90s.

Let's see I have 7 M1911 variants, from full size Governments, mid-size Commanders, a compact size Officers Model, and a sub-compact size New Agent. Some are all steel while others have lightweight aluminum alloy frames. Some are mainly for range use and home defense while others are more suited for concealed carry. Some are in .45 caliber, while others are chambered for .38 Super, 9mm., and .22LR.

All of them come from the same basic design yet all are different and varied enough to have a unique and well deserved place in my gun collection.

And that's why I have more than one M1911.

In 1912, I owned an even dozen 1911's. One was a .40, one a 9mm and one a 38 super. The rest were .45's of various sizes. I'm currently on a 'diet' and am down to only 8.

Ditto. I love 1911 pistols, but right now there are other guns on the short list. Maybe someday I can get another 1911. After all, I need at least one that's bobtailed.

Well, one of the pin matches I shoot in (NH) has categories for stock pistol and customized pistol. So I have two M1911A1 Springfield Armory .45s. One is stock, and the other has a compensator on its muzzle.

I like guns. I can afford them so I buy them; I cast and load so I can shoot all I want. My wife never asked the infamous "why" question but there were times she did have a funny look on her face. Then one day she wanted to shoot one. Then she wanted to get better.

The last seven guns bought in this partnership were her purchases; and she has more planned. The "why" question has yet to be asked and frankly I have no plans to ask it.
