I guess I just don't understand the question but then again, I'm rather dense at stuff like that!

That said, we have, counting two 1911 variants- a Star Model B and a Star Firestar 45, nine 1911's. I'm having trouble envisioning any problem here other than not having enough of them.

Just to name a few, I have 5, 686's, 5 629's, 5 model 27's. 5 model 19's,3 model 15's. You can't have to many.

I have long tended to own multiples of my carry handguns. Handguns are mechanical objects, which means they are occasionally down for maintenance and repair. As familiarity with one's carry gun is a good thing, and might make a difference between living and dying, this means a spare of the same model can be a good thing. Assuming one buys into this concept, one can then economize on holsters, spare magazines, and spare parts.

Owning two or more of the same weapon makes perfect sense to me. It makes little sense, to me, to own only one each of many different weapons; I am not much of a collector. (To be clear, it is quite OK to be a collector; it is just not my way.)

This concept is not just for firearms. I shoot evidentiary photography at work, as part of being a police officer. Digital SLR cameras are both electronic and mechanical; plenty of things can go wrong. My camera case contains two of the same model of Canon camera, though the lenses are different; one wide-angle zoom, and one fixed-focal-length macro. If either camera were to malfunction, I could keep working, by swapping the lenses as needed onto the one remaining
camera.

Presently, I own only one 1911. When I last used 1911 pistols for duty and carry, from 1997-2002, I "qual'ed" with three, the classic pair-and-a-spare. I subsequently kept a pair of G22 Glocks, and later three P229 SIG DAKs, for the same purposes. (I am presently down to just one SIG, in anticipation of a policy change that would let me switch to the gentler-recoiling 9mm as a duty cartridge; .40 is harsh to my aging, arthritic wrists.)

Explain to her as I do: the gun cabinet is an investment portfolio, rather than a toy box.

1911s come in such different builds and configurations just one is not enough: .45 and 9mm, with rail or w/o, longslides too, beat up warhorses, target, and the bargain that could NOT be passed up.

I'm not going to lie. One of the reasons why I like my Glocks is that my wife can't tell the difference between them. I buy a new Glock, and to her it looks just like another pistol.

I have two full size 1911's both SpringField in 45acp. Tell her you need two in case one of them jams while you defending against home invaders.

I really didn't have a specific reason for starting the thread or posing the question. Just making sure I'm not the only one that wants one from each manufacturer. I love the platform, truly iconic. When I think of a pistol the first thing that comes to mind is a 1911. Now to convince my wife I need another. I like the investment idea.

Two 1911 -- one in a 5" bbl, and "mil spec" The other in a 3.5" bbl. and "loaded" -- all the bells/whistles, night sights. They're as "different" as day and night.

Also, a couple Mausers, a couple lever guns, several revolvers, shotguns, etc. And then on the knife end of the collection, I have FIVE Schrade folders -- Old Timer, Uncle Henry, Uncle Henry w/ rosewood scales, custom rodeo trophy drop point and birdseye maple scales, limited run w/ stag scales and file work

Look at her shoe collection and ask her why she needs them all; they're all the same size!

I was testing out my Colt officers model at the range. The range officer was taking a look at it. He told me he has 25 1911's. If you can afford it and want it. Why not?

A decade or so ago, I had very successful businesses that generated a lot of cash. Being gobsmacked with 1911s, I decided that the right number to own would be 45.

After buying, selling, and trading 1911s, I thought that I had 45 of them in my strongroom. I was happy, I had fulfilled my goal.

My wife got into the strongroom one day and counted 53 of them ranging from beater basic SA models to Les Baer and wilson. She then found three more of them laying around the house.

I got intervention! She got us a cabin on the river.

I only own 4 or 5 now and have learned to turn down 'deals'.

Something that I have been relieved to find, is that when you have more than one good, viable pistol.....you don't have to cry as much when one breaks. It used to be, when I had a problem with my gun, people would tell me; "Send it back to the factory, make them fix it." which is fine and good, and principally correct, but.....how long will it take? Weeks? Months? Do I want to live without it for that long? Or would I rather just out of pocket to have a gun smith fix it? (That's what I usually did.) But when you aren't depending on JUST ONE GUN to do EVERYTHING, you find it's not that big of a deal to be without one for a while.

Well I saw all these threads about people having more than one 1911 so I got really worried about some plight that might be setting in on mankind SO
I went out and bought another to see if I could understand why people had to have more than one

I am now in the process of conducting my scientific study on mankind and why he has to have multiple 1911s.
I keep buying more just so I can more thoroughly conduct my study.

No conclusion yet but maybe someday I will have fully found the cause of this disease.
