Anyone Carry an Identical Backup Weapon?

With all the "regular" caliber sub-compacts to choose from today it got me to thinking.

Does anyone here carry a backup that is identical to your regular CCW piece?

There are obvious advantages to doing this. No need to be familiar with two different weapons, magazines/bullets/holsters can be interchanged etc.

So who of you does this? Or at least carrys guns that make use of the same mags.

I do have a 4" 19 and a 2 1/2" 19, but really I'm thinking if I need both of them somewhere then I'm not gonna go there

I do like the duplicate concept though. Not so much for carry at the same time but for use if main gun needs work, is stolen, or taken by police if used in a shooting. You then have the same thing your trained on handy.

In fact I think money no object three might be the best. One for carry a second at home in case something happens to the first one and a third at another location if your house is broken into or if all your guns are seized as the result of shooting which sometimes happens if the incident occurs at your home.

Know several Deputies and Troopers who carry G-27's as back-up to thier G-22's, never saw another same model or basically cutdown same model combo though. Most go with main gun and a Kel-tec or 5 shot S/W.

I know people who carry two different pistols that can use the same magazine type. That way if need be they can use the same magazine if something happens to the primary (providing that the primary didn't go down with a magazine problem ).

I've been known to carry a G22 and a G27, but decided to go with just one gun that works every time. Back to the geezer 1911...just don't see much reason to carry two of those

I don't normally carry more than one gun at a time, but I have four SIG Sauer pistols that function the same way. (Every time I press the trigger it fires the round in the chamber. It's almost boring. )

If I was going someplace that required me to have two guns, my primary would be a rifle or carbine with a handgun as my secondary. I endevour to avoid those situations.

either 2 full size 1911 styles
or K frames

If when doing some "consulting'- partener and I carry 2 guns each, Identical. Something goes south,we know MOA and have ammo works in all.

We've been using the Keltec P-11 for a 2nd instead of late (even a 3rd on one situation).

I am trying to acquire a S&W 638 right now. I actually would like to own about 6 or 7 J frame Smiths and when I become CCW enabled, I think I will probably carry 2 J frames - probably a pair of 638s. This despite the fact that I am a total 1911 fanatic.

I have been known to carry two matched 3" S&W mod 65's in left and right hand Alessi BSU holsters. Does that count? I always thought of it as two primary pistols rather than a primary and a backup. It was really just a reload.

I sometimes carry my PM9 as a b/u for my K9 (mag interchange), but generally speaking, I don't have 2 of the exact same model. Not enough time and not enough money.

I used to fool around with a Charter Bell Oak dual holster(twin holster?) for a Colt agent and a cobra. Everybody laughed and said it printed badly.

My Bro. in law carries a baby Glock as backup to his duty handgun.

My backup is made by the same mfgr, but different caliber. P-11, P-32

Hoppy always carried two identical handguns, and never lost a gunfight. So it must be okay.

I've been known to carry a S&W lightweight snub in an ankle hoster and a steel snub IWB, or a glock 17 on the belt and a 26 in a fanny pack or IWB....tom
