Which Scope to get

Ok, I'm getting close to picking up a new spotting scope and I was looking at the Kowa TSN-661 or the TSN-821M. The 821M was more expensive. I'm figuring the Long Eye Relief would be best for the lens as well.

Which one would be good for scoring long shots in competition or is there something else that would be better.

I have to put the money down that I've saved up on the scope soon as other things, like a new 700PSS or 10FP, keep calling my name.

Ok, to be perfectly honest, you're not going to see .223 holes at 300 and 600 yards easily, but you won't have to. At that distance you should have pits, so you'l have a big marker to look at. A good scope at those distances really helps with wind reading. The reduced 100 or 200) course is where you can see the hits with a good scope. I've been using a 661 with good results, but Jon just got an 821 and loves it. With either, you must have a good stand because they're heavy scopes and can be blown over easily on a small stand. I actually have a modified Jim Owen's stand I've been thinking about selling that would work, let me know.

Either way, you'll absolutely need the 45 degree model, and the LER eyepiece is usually best. www.jarheadtop.com has some good prices.

Troy,
If we hookup, you can try out my Kowa 821. I'll bring my cheap chinese scope for a comparison.

You said you're going to the Reading clinic. Is that still your plan? Make the call, I can get you started earlier.
