Good, inexspensive competition ammunition

Okay, so I am new at this competition thing. I have used several different ammos for my G17: Winchester, American Eagle, range reloads, Blazers, etc.

As I am a soon-to-be-father with a limited budget, I would like to purchase a bulk of 9mm ammo so as to save money in the long run, but how and where? And what brand seems to work best (in your opinion[s])?

CRITERIA:
1)I would love to keep this under $10 a box, but I understand that might be difficult.
2)Would be good for Glock (although it has eaten everything I've ever given it so far).
3)Could be ordered through sporting goods store or maybe even via the internet (I live in Hemet, which, as nearly everyone knows, is a place where "you can't get there from here").

Oh, and reloading myself is not yet an option.

I am currently using Dynamit-Nobel Geco brand 9mm in a G34 and 17. Excellent ammo, just over USPSA minor PF, clean, accurate, nice recoil. Only pitfall is with an indoor range they might get peevish since the it has some mild steel in the bullet. Doesn't hurt backstops, but they don't know that. I'm buying it at retail for 6 bucks a box, so I'm sure a good case price is out there. Much better than Wally world white box as far as quality.

My vote to best value 9mm ammo goes to Walmart Winchester white box of 100 for $10.96. I've gone through 3000 rounds since last year when a new Wally World opened near the ol' homestead

Consistent quality from box to box too

Congrats on the new baby too!

Right now you can get 1,000 Speer Gold Dot 9mms for $159, shipped, at www.ammoman.com. They ship quickly and should perform very well in your Glock.

Georgia Arms canned heat. 500 rounds of 9mm for $65, and 1000 for $120.

Good stuff, I used it till I got my own reloading equipment.

On the IDPA website, at the "GUN related websites," I found one of the vendors called Ammo Direct.

Ammo Direct

They offer a 115 grain round nose full metal jacket for about $5.85 per 50rd. box. Or $99.97 per 1000rd. case. UPS Ground shipping of course (which runs about 15 to 20 dollars for a case, depending upon where you are [the case runs about 30 pounds]).

They claim that the 115 gr. bullet travels at 1154fps (with about a +\- 16fps deviation). Now, that's a 132,710 power floor, more than enough to meet or exceed the 125,000 power floor set by IDPA.

Has anyone used this company? If so, what did you think?

10-ring, my Wal*Mart out here barely carries .22 ammo. It is highly unlikely that they'd have 9mm Winchesters in a 100 count box. But I will check whilst doing errands today.

I don't know about their long-term performance or anything, but the one order of .38 ammo I placed with Ammo direct included several squibs. When I called to let the proprietor know, he promised to send a return label for the remainder (so I could return this unreliable batch for a new one), but never did. I haven't ordered from them again. Haven't had this kind of experience or customer service (failure) with either zero or georgia arms reloads.

He asked for competition ammo, not cheapest you can get. I occasionally shoot the Winchester, but if anyone thinks it is good ammo they don't get out much. Felt recoil varies a lot from shot to shot and it's filthy stuff. I don't think the Gol Dot is the plan unless you're hoping to make major with it which it probably comes very close to. Something about the least recoil possible. Maybe the Georgia Arms, good company. Other than that I shy from fly by night commercial reloaders.

The reason I offered the Georgia Arms ammo is because I used it in competition, IDPA. It's consistent and accurate enough for combat pistol.

Most likely right, never met a Georgia Arms product I didn't like. They always give me a discount too when they see an exhibitor badge at the gunshow. Never tired the 9mm, highly recommend their .308 match stuff and .45 offerings.

PS: Anything but the Blazer! What I've seen of it at matches you can follow the trail of silver cases to the guy hectically trying to clear yet another malfunction.

Walmart has Winchester 115gr 9mm in boxes of 100 for $10.95.

That's 109.50 plus tax for 1000 (10 boxes).

Hard to beat, and it Winchester.

I bought a box of the 100 count winchester at Wallyworld and with tax it was $11.81.

Will be trying it out this weekend.

If it doesn't shoot well, I'll try something else. But hard to complain about the cost.

For those who were talking about fouling, I clean my guns after every use, so powder build-up is a non issue.

Let you know how it works.

I have had very good luck with S+B in 9mm, 40 and 45.

In my guns, at least, the 9mm gives acceptable accuracy, the 40 fair accuracy and the 45 very good accuracy.

The brass reloads very well and I haven't had feeding problems in several thousands of rounds. I DID have one squib in 45, but I've had those with the 'big names', as well.

Natchez usually has excellent prices on their S+B.

Natchez has 50-round boxes of CCI Blazer for $4.85/box. Blazers have been very reliable in my G30 - and as soon as I get my CZ75, we'll see how they feed in that.
