Need Info on Beretta 1934 / 1935

Need to know how to tell what Beretta i have . is it a 1934 or 1935 ? On left side of slide has P Beretta-cal. 7.65-Devettata Gardone V.I 1944 . Grips have PB , black with metal back . Right side slide has serial # 5630xx . By mag. release is a Star , and a G . can anyone help me . Thx.

You have the M1935, in .32 auto caliber. The M34 is in 9mm Corto; .380 ACP.

The Italian Air Force and Navy used the M35, the Army, the M34.

It should read P.Beretta-cal 7.65 Brevettata Gardone V.T. 1944.
It's a Model 1935.As for the star and g stampings,they're part numbers as such.If you dissassemble it some more you will find other letters and numbers on most all parts.
By 1944 the Beretta factory was in the hands of the Germans and Mr Beretta was being forced to produce guns for the war effort.He was at the same time smuggling arms to the partisans which came in very handy when the orders came down from Berlin to execute the family.Partisans stormed the factory which by this time had been moved into the mountainsides of Gardone, and the villa where the Germans had garisoned.So ended the German occupation of the Beretta factory.Of course the Allied air force finished the job on the original factory building soon after,but the machinery was nice and cozy in the mountains.
Neat little guns those 1944 Mo35's.Lots of history.

how do i tell if this is a Military or commercial . i find no markings .

As the Germans occupied the Beretta factory, I doubt this was a civilian gun, although it may have been smuggled out to guerilla fighters.

By 1944, Italy had joined the Allied cause, so I doubt that Germany was allowing the Italian military markings. These were RE for Regio Esercito (sp?); RA for Regio Aeronautica (Air Force); and RM for Regio Marina (Navy)

More likely, your gun has German Waffenampt markings that you don't recognize. Look for a sort of eagle symbol with a number. Guns destined for SS use may not have it, as they weren't part of the German army, per se.

Or, the gun may have been sold/distributed to some individual German and left unmarked.

I think you need to start with reading some basic books covering WW II guns, and the books specific to Beretta. You can also write to the Beretta factory or to Beretta, USA. The Italian embassy can surely give you the factory address. Call the info operator and ask for the 'phone number in DC. Ask for the Commercial Consul or similar title. Whoever answers will know who you need. You can also ask for or write to the Military Attache, who may forward your letter to someone in the know. Most Eyeties on embassy duty will speak English.
