I know we usually do one of these and I haven't seen one for this deer season.
If it's already here and I'm just overlooking it, feel free to merge or lock this one and point me to it or whatever the mods want.

Let's see some pics of this years successful hunts.

I had my first success Saturday which was opening day of muzzleloading. Got this doe at about 150 yards. It was the farthest I've ever shot one with a ML. Hit her a little high but it ended well. She ran about 30 yards and died in less than a minute so a good quick kill. Glad to have some venison in the freezer.

I showed you mine. Let's see yours. :)

Always nice to get the freezer stocked back up. What load were you using if you don't mind sharing?

Don't mind at all friend.

It was a 295 grain Powerbelt hollow point and 80 grains of Pyrodex with a Winchester Triple 7 primer.

I read up on the Powerbelts and read from several sources that the bullets don't perform well with magnum 150 grain loads and that their sweet spot was in the 80-90 grain range. I went to the range and the 80 grain groups were tighter than the 90s so that's what I went with.

The guys at camp look at me funny when I pour 80 grains of loose powder down the barrel, but I'm 2 for 2 on deer with that load. This one, the bullet entered where you see it there and travelled across it's body and came to rest just under the hide on the other hip. I cut the bullet out and it was a perfect mushroom. Performed absolutely flawlessly.

Any chance you'd post a photo of the recovered bullet? I've shot power belts but never hunted with them. I've heard mixed reviews about their on game performance but I'd love to see a nicely mushroomed one! In fact I love looking at any recovered bullets

Ive been deemed a hunting guide apparently for this year... First up is me packing out my buddies young buck shot was 317 yds, Next is my buck from a few hours ago.. whopping 5yd headshot lol and on opening day which was saturday found my cousin a nice young 2pt to shoot, Dont have any pics of that one. 3 deer in 3 days of hunting.. and i got 2 people left to take out to find deer.

Haven't shot a deer, yet. Been trying. I do think the rut's starting, so I've got hope. :D Tried rattling a little this afternoon, never works for me. I'm beginning to think that's an old wive's tale.

Here's my dove hunt pix for this season. Duck season and goose season is upon us and I'm stocking up on steel shot loads in 12 and 10 gauge for the occasion. :D Gettiing my goose deeks straightened out and repaired and have to get a new decoy bag for my pintail deeks.

I didnt take pictures but a lot of people here got good animals better than what I got.

haywoodhunter, I looked and couldn't find the recovered bullet.
If I stumble upon it, I'll certainly post a pic.

Taking off work at lunch Friday to get the weekend hunt started a little early.
It's supposed to rain Saturday so I may end up sitting in the truck watching down a logging road then. Not real sporting, but it's legal and I'm trying to fill a freezer. :)

Dont see to many mulefooted hogs. That blood line is supposed to go back to when Juan ponce de Leon brought the frist hogs to the US , Which was in florida.

Some may have come over then, but the condition happens via mutation as a recessive trait and does so in all sorts of varieties of hogs. That people started breeding for the trait in the late 1800s to create the American Mulefoot breed, but nobody knows if such hogs were the result of the Spanish hogs, subsequent French, Dutch, English, or other European import hogs, or if they were by indigenous mutation.

The breed was considered prime pork, superior to other breeds, and farms sprang up over much of the US, at least east of the Rockies with several concentrations in southern states (including Texas) and northern states such as Pennsylvania.

The breed lost favor with the rise of the cattle industry and is now considered nearly extinct as a breed. Mulefoots in the wild are likely due in large part to mutation and the rare meeting of recessive gene carrying feral hogs from the historic mulefoot breed operations. Where I have killed my mulefoots is not actually too many miles from the location of one of those early 20th century mulefoot farms.

Interesting information.
We have a lot of pigs on our deer lease. Our president loves hunting them and has in the area for many years. I'll have to ask him if he's ever ran across one.

I just got in from out west...1,800 miles in the last three days with a few business meetings on the way home. I put all the meat in the freezer, cleaned the coolers...and I'm done. Going to sit on the couch and chill. I'll post more details later, but here is my first ever elk.

My youngest son and I have had a great season in Oklahoma with our crossbows. Both of us scored our best bucks ever, and I culled a big OLD 7 point.

This is a very old mule deer buck I took 10/23 in SE Idaho.
His teeth are all but gone, only 3 bottom incisors left, and those loose. Only a couple molars left, which were ground down to the gums. no upper teeth at all. His rack is past it's prime, but still shows shades of his past royal standing.

Mossberg Model (Howa) 1500 30-06. Speer 165 gn SP over 57 gn IMR4350.

Deer weren't moving this weekend but the hogs were.
To give some perspective on this one's size, the guy tying that rope off is 6 ft, 325 pounds.

Awesome hog!!! I sort of enjoy hunting them more than the deer, but I guess good venison is worth the effort too.
