I think the OP forgot a few items:

6. Make outlandish claims of accuracy like one can shoot 1" groups at 250 yards with iron sights with their AR.
7. Head over to Perfect Union, create an account, and tell the Ruger Mini-14 owners how much their rifles suck and how AWESOME your rifle is, even though they didn't even ask.
8. Deride steel case ammo just cause it's the thing to do now.

NOW...IS...THE...TIME!

Rifles/parts/mags/ammo are the cheapest ever right now, and we are only a few months away from an election that could make prices skyrocket again.

Sorry. Just not on the bandwagon, still. Call me old fashioned but when I was growing up, the only guns we owned just to "shoot for fun" were .22's and if we needed a self defense weapon, we used the shotgun leaning up against the wall next to the headboard.

Occasionally I'll throw a lower into my spare parts box, close the lid and shake vigorously.

Lo and behold, when I dump the box open, a new rifle falls out.

I'm the black sheep then, I much prefer a basic, lightweight rifle without all the added tactical crap.

Same here, though I do have a light on mine for home defense. I thought about buying a second light as a spare, but I better not because my safe is getting full and I'd like to fit an M1A and an AK in there one day

Yeah, that's how it works. I assembled a high quality AR in '08 so that I would definitely have one in case things went wonky with another AWB or something. I didn't plan on buying/building more...

Let's just say I have more and leave it at that. I can't be blamed though, all you have to do is buy a 3 or 5 pack of stripped lowers at $40 each and then you can mail order parts as your time and budget allow and they show up at your door!

I would agree, if most AR's shot a real round. I don't consider the .223 good for much at all, which is one of the main reasons they don't do much for me.

Then there's the graftings of a bewildering combination of uppers to lowers, target, tactical, game boy, colors from camo to nausea inducing pastels and cartridges from .22 rimfire to .50 Beowulf (and every niche between), combined in myriad combinations.

I think another way that they procreate is by way of the sale priced stripped lowers. You see them advertised for a price so low that you can't not buy one (or more). It won't be long before you have to build something around it.

A buddy just emailed me that a local shop is selling stripped Anderson lowers for $43.98. My first reaction was "holy crap, that's as cheap as I ever saw them. I better get me some."

The reality is I got my knee replaced last week and can't drive yet, so I'm safe until next time
