What would be the most obnoxious firearm to shoot at a range?

I would think that at an indoor range it would be a black powder revolver.

Worst I ever experienced at a public range was .50/20MM rifle some guys were shooting one day. The .50 BMG cartridge was apparently not big enough for them. They had necked down the 20MM to .50 cal. and built a bolt action rifle for it.....

According to the guy and his grandson standing in the next lane, it was my M1 Garand. I touched off a round and he had a fit over how loud it was! I politely explained that it is a gun range and loud noises are expected. I also pointed out that hearing protection is advisable.

Wow, loud noises at a gun range, never saw that coming.

I got comments from my son when I touched off my ported 4" .357 magnum at an indoor range.

Heck, I didn't like it, either, even with plugs and muffs.

I call my snubby .38 with +P rounds in it my "Fourth of July" gun.

Because the flash and bang is like a 10" aerial salute. RO came over and asked me what I was shooting because some lady waiting to shoot behind me "jumped" every time I fired. Mmmmmkay. Did not notice whether she was wearing ears. Finished up with my last 5 rounds and went to a quieter gun.

(I found out early on in teaching ladies to shoot that hair and sometimes earrings tend to keep muffs from sealing too well.)

A 500 magnum revolver and a 470 Nitro Express rifle.

Anything with a muzzle brake.

.338 Lapua with a muzzle brake.

AK Krinkov pistol. Some dude was hammering away with his at an indoor range. WOW those things are loud.

12 gauge shotty, indoor range, firing for effect with slugs in the lane next to us. The shock waves made my jowls flutter.

Oh, and the shooter kept stepping/tripping on the air hose to the oxygen tank he wheeled in. But that's fodder for another thread...

We left early.

The small range where I shoot only goes to 280 yards. There's one dude who likes to shoot his 50 BMG out there. I either go down to the pistol range until he finishes or just pack up.

They are obnoxious regardless, but at an indoor range, absolutely.

While this and other platforms mentioned may by extremely obnoxious to those next to the shooter, to the shooter themselves, it may be no more obnoxious than shooting a M-1 Carbine.

A grenade launcher cause you gonna die dude.

Depends on how close you are, but any magnum, with or without a brake, tops most stuff. Almost got blown off the bench by a young guy with a .338 Win Mag one time.
BP inside is bad. .45 ACP trace is kind of funny in a dark range. I thought it was anyway. There was a chorus of "What the <removed> was that?"

My 12-gauge Serbu Super Shorty, with only a 6½" barrel, is petty darn loud and produces a rather large fireball. I only shoot it on my own private property though.

For goodness sake, if you're going to shoot at an indoor range, wear plugs AND muffs. Chances are good someone is going to be shooting something loud.

I would agree, at an indoor range a BP would be terrible.

Also at an indoor range, ive experienced being next to a guy firing a 12" barreled shotgun with slugs. That was pretty rough. I was in the lane next to him, the noise and blast were brutal. But topping that, some guy had a 308 Contender. He was on the rifle side and I was on the other side. It was still crazy loud.

.50 bmg outside was pretty bad, guy had a clear stall to either side of him on a packed day.

But I would say the full-auto rentals at the indoor range are the worse. The concussion even from just a braked 556 will bounce around the walls and converge, you feel it in your chest and it rattles your teeth even at the far end.

I'm not that bothered by flash and noise but my shooting buddies complain so much about my SBR AR and braked AK that I want to get linear comps for them.

Barrett .50 I was next to one. Had to leave. Much worse than a muzzle loading .50

At the indoor range....of which I have membership....when checking in...the RO will ask me if I am shooting one of my Ruger Old Army's.
When I smile and say yes.....he will grin back....and assign me the lane NEXT to someone they want to run off....after six rounds down range....at twice the distance..of those next to me....and shooting the X out of a target....while they shoot some plastic whatever...held sideways...gangsta style...with shotgun groupings....the cloud of dense smoke will stop all shooting!
After reloading...with said gangsta wannabes watching....who have absolutely no idea what I am doing....the next six rounds usually have them packing it up for the day....checking myself out....I would get a "Thank you" from the RO.

a) Any shortbarreled high-pressure rifle (+ with muzzle brake)
b) Copy of American civil-war cannon shot in indoor range (Otrokovice)...

I've always wanted a .475 Wildey Magnum, 10 or 12 inch barrel.

It would be one of those guns that I would take to the range solely for the purpose of one-upping the typical jerk show-off that occasionally likes to show up and unload this magnum-whatever-it-is as fast as he can without actually managing to hit anything he's aiming at.

I visualize myself calmly pulling it out of its case while the jerk is busy being a show off, loading it with some really hot rounds, setting the variable gas action appropriately...then proceed to punch holes in my target with bullets that are pushed all the way down range at the tip of a huge flaming spear of exhaust gases extending from the muzzle all the way to the target, riding a rippling shockwave tearing up the ground all the way down range.

Some day I will get that gun. And when I do, I'm going to contact CraigC about an IWB for it.
