Cabela's has a sale on LCPs.
If you don't have one by now, you're probably not gonna get one.
My local Cabela's had 37 - they were all gone on day 1 of the sale.

Kinda on a whim, a $200 whim, I bought one.
It's gonna be a couple of weeks til I can get to the range.
It's buried under 4 feet of snow (the range - not the gun. :rolleyes: )

So in the mean time, what can I expect?
I had a Keltec PF9 that I gave up cuz the trigger liked to bite me in the finger tip.

I hope I'm not going down that road again.

Got an LCP? What's the good & not so good points?
 
Trigger is long and somewhat heavy and has to be let out all the way like a revolver. Slide doesn't lock back empty. Not much to hold on to. Recoil can be stout. Sights are rudimentary if the original version and they hit low for me. Otherwise I love the things. Easy and thin to carry in pocket holster. Extremely reliable and quite accurate.

As with all the other micro 380's, it isnt really a fun range gun to shoot. It is hard to hold on to the little stinker. My lcp works, it is nothing special though, toolmarks are pretty bad in the rifling and the slide serrations, sights are tiny. but hey, it runs. its a pocket carry gun and does its job fine for me.
 
I would buy one for $200. And I already have a KelTec P3AT and Kahr .380. I understand the limitations of the LCP but $200 is a great price.
 
Check your Cabelas most of them sold out the first day of the sale.
 
My Cabela's sold out in about 90 minutes... I think they had 30+ as well.

If you have a place that does cheap transfers, I know Palmetto State Armory has been discounting these pretty heavily as well.
 
I saw that ad...right after I bought one at my LGS for $220. But I don't mind. It is definitely not a fun gun to shoot, uncomfortable comes to mind. But I got a DeSantis pocket holster and a Hogue rubber grip. It disappears in my front pocket. I just don't think I will shoot this gun enough that I would bother reloading.
 
$20 is the price of a cheap dinner. Vs getting something that will last you years. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
 
I already have one and am tempted to pick up a spare at 200!

To reiterate others...snappy recoil, long trigger pull (but I have found it breaks consistently) and I can make one ragged hole at 7 yards.
 
I picked up a Flat Dark Earth Cerakote LCP right after Thanksgiving during a Ruger event then ... I got mine at a LGS for $239 ...

I don't have any problem with recoil ... I guess I am used to shooting 357 SIG Glock and a .44 Mag ...

I do shoot it a little low and left ... only put a couple hundred rounds through it ...

I was pulling low left with mine until I stopped trying to stage the trigger. I just pull straight through at constant speed until it breaks. I get VG accuracy that way...
 
I bought my LCP about 6 years ago and it has served me well. I paid about $300 for it back then. Great little gun.

Why do people complain about the trigger and such, it is not meant to be a pleasurable range gun. I just shot it to make sure it was reliable, cleaned it and loaded it up with some Remington Golden Saber 380ACP.
 
good points - drops in the pocket to go anywhere, even in shorts, t-shirt, and flip flop weather. So far has gone bang every time I wanted it to.

not as good points - not a whole lotta fun to shoot. Not awful, but a bit snappy and for me definitely not one of those "can't wait to shoot it again" guns. Price of factory .380 ammo is crazy.
 
The LCP, like others of its ilk, fill a very narrow niche but it fills it well-a small, light, reliable pistol chambered in a minimal cartridge for self-defense that can be pocket-carried (or otherwise) discreetly. Such a pistol unavoidably brings negative baggage along with it-minimal sights, long, heavy trigger-pulls, snappy, hard to control for repeat shots recoil and a barely adequate "man-stopping" self-defense cartridge. I wouldn't be without one. :what:
 
I have been surprised at how well I like the little guy. I wasn't looking to get one until I saw their considerable price drop. I have shot reloads with mild (HP-38) to Hot (CFE Pistol, hot for a 380) loads.

Mine has been quite accurate at 7-10 yds. But I'm use to the trigger, as I have the older big brother, LC9.

Though a bit bigger, I satisfies my inkling of wanting a NAA SA 22. :)
 
They are very easy to carry. I find I have mine with me way more often than any other gun I own. It goes with shorts in the summer. None of my others do. Like others have said, they aren't one you look forward to shooting, but if you have it with you, it's way better than not having anything. Mine ain't for sale.....
 
I just bought one. $209.00 at my LGS. I put a Tech clip on it, shot 60 rds through it, and started carrying it when I don't want to carry my 3.5" 1911. It is 'minute of liter bottle' accurate. Easily concealed.
I think I like it. ....don't love it.....but like it.
 
With that not being a range toy gun, I don't think the price of factory ammo is that big of a deal - I am going to shoot it a whole lot less than my "fun" guns.

However, I am hesitant to buy one without trying it first, and so far two ranges I tried did not have them for rent...
 
JimKirk - yes I agree with the reloading part, and have all necessary components except brass, which i am collecting a few at a time. I even have cast bullets for lesser cost.

And I agree with 1Kperday - almost can't afford not to buy it at that price. Can probably offload it for nearly the same price if you absolutely dislike it that much.

Or you may start thinking like me in that you'll start looking at other .380 makes and models. So far I've resisted, but I don't know how long I can hold out. I may need therapy.

I doubt you'll ever love an LCP, but you'll always appreciate the niche it fills.
