inexpensive 9mms?

im looking for something older, out of production to add to my collection, something you dont really see everyday and it wont be a carry piece, so size and weight are not an issue

i believe i can find the astra 400 and 600 for around the same price range and thats something id be interested in adding to my collection as well, a straight-blowback 9mm that isnt a hi point
 
I like my SD9VE, the trigger kind of sucks but it's a well-made gun that shoots better than I can.
 
I got a SCCY CPX-1 used and I'm really happy with it. It eats anything I feed it with no problem and always works. I like the size and only wish they made it in a .40 I've never been a 9mm fan but I like this one and would buy another if I came across a deal.
 
I haven't paid anything over $300 for any of my hand guns, all 9mm.

Taurus 709 Slim: $250
S&W 469: $250
Kel-Tec P11: $300 (yes, I paid a little more for the factory Cerakote in desert tan)
Ruger P-89: $300.

The Taurus was purchased LNIB
the Kel-Tec was NIB
The S&W and Ruger, both discontinued, were purchased used.

My next $300 9mm will be the Diamondback DB9FS. Probably not til next year or so, though.

I have found Stars to be very reliable. In 9x19 there is also the smaller Star model BM :)( I know) that is built like a tank, accurate, concealable and very reliable ... but it is all-steel and, therefore, it is rather heavy. The alloy-frame sibling is the model BKM ... never managed to find one at a good price.

I have 4 BMs, 2 that I bought for, like $140/ea in excellent shape ~13 years ago and 2 that I got acoupla years later for a lot less (after they had disappeared from the market) that were in Need Some Work condition.

I also have a Kel-Tec PF9 that I purchased in Jul'07 & carried as my Primary for about 7 years. It is still in my rotation.
 
My Star Super B is outstanding. I got it about a year ago and have fired many hundreds of rounds through it with zero problems. It is a solid, well-made pistol.
 
are the star frames the same size as the standard 1911 frame? i notice some star models are also chambered in 45acp and 9mm largo
 
You could have saved some people from wasting their time if you'd said right up front in the opening post that Turkish guns were not an option.

I went through this same exercise a while ago, minus the aversion to Turkish guns.

I just used Internet search tools like Gun Watcher and SlickGuns to price sort all 9mm from low to high. At the bottom of the price range are derringers, then Hi-Points, then the Century Arms Zastava M88 / Yugo M70, then there was the SCCY, Kel-Tec and Diamondback DB9 and Taurus PT111 G2 all coming in at around $200.00, and then there is the Sarsilmaz offerings – imported by EAA.
 
Looks like MIL-DOT was correct about the OP. First he wants info on a cheap 9mm and then comes back saying he is only interested in out of production guns such as Star and Astra. Why not say you only wanted out of production non-carry guns in the first place?

I'm with MIL-DOT. Don't feed the troll.

I only posted my answer because someone might type in a similar question on Google, and get this thread as a hit, my post was for anyone who is actually looking for an inexpensive 9mm and they stumble upon this thread.
 
if im looking for an older, inexpensive, and maybe a bit less common 9mm to add to a collection, im well within my rights to do so, again, not a carry gun, not even a major range gun, just something to add, so i couldnt care less about mil-dots gripes with what i choose to do with my money, he doesnt dictate what im interested in

now clearly i was looking for something in the same realm as an old star or astra pistol, its not a category i delve into much so im not sure what the going prices on some of the options are, id love to add a bergmann bayard and a 1912 steyr to my collection as well.. im sure someone will complain about that decision, unfortunately those are a bit out of the price range right now and im starting to like the astra 400 and 600 pistols, not too many straight blowback 9mm pistols made

thats an interesting option? is the grip on that shorter or is it still a standard 7.62x25 frame? i think if i were to get a tokarev id want it in the original caliber

i do think you've just made my decision for me, you just reminded me zastava made a 9mm tokarev but this one was a bit more modernized and a tad smaller than the full size version, the zatava M88 and theyre under $300 i believe

Perhaps, if you'd reversed the order in which you posted this, it would have helped.

Also, the various Star pistols are locked breech guns. Hi-points are blow-back operated. The first post seemed to single out Hi-Point guns because of price, not operating method.

i dont care if a pistol is locked breech or not, in fact i like the simplicity of straight blowbacks which why im getting a bulgarian mak sometime in the next couple weeks, what i dislike about the hi point is how poorly implemented it is, a plastic frame makes it entirely too top heavy to save weight.. why? its not like anyones going to carry a hi point anyway.. and the slide to my understanding is just a low quality casting

the star model B, astra 600, and the two zastava pistols (M88 and M70A) seem to be the best options so far but since i already have a full size tokarev on my short list in its original caliber i see no need to get the M70A, but i really like the M88 i posted above
 
The out of the ordinary (in this day of polymer pistols) that I have and suggest are: Star Super B, Ruger 89 (or any of that series), Zastava M70A (or the M88A, I've shot a friend's & they are the same basic design, just a compact version in the M88A), Beretta 1951. All solid designs, available used (=older), and at about $300 or under if you shop around.

Two other suggestions: I had a Star BM, their "commander" sized, and I'm looking at the Norinco 913's - like my Zastava, a different copy of the Tokarev.

S&W 5906 or one of its brothers. Great pistols and reliable as you can get.

Other thoughts if Polymer were not a problem, The sar B6P. Good guns under $300.

Bersa has a line of 9mm for a little over $300 and they get good reviews.
