I bought a new M&P .40 a few weeks ago. Currently I load Critical Defense when carrying it. Does anyone have any other suggestions for carry ammo for it?

Thanks,

Darkwolf.

Anyone of the top makers JHPs will do fine and dandy. Winchester, Remington, Federal, CCI..

As long as it shoots strait and is reliable in you sidearm.

165 gr Critical Defense is what my most finicky .40 likes, so all of my other .40's like it, too, so that's what I use.

My agency issues Speer Gold Dots. Can't say I've ever connected one with anything other than paper or dirt, but they do go *bang* and fly straight.

Personally I like Critical Duty more than Critical Defense. Yeah, might not expand that much, but it does expand and it keeps it doesn't shed weight where the Critical Defense loses petals all the time.

But Critical Defense is meant for short (3 to 4 inch) barrels.

Post #2 is right: any of the big brand names except Remington will work well. Even value brand names like PMC and Magtech will work good.

What deaf Smith said. S&W M&P is a very reliable handgun. HP rounds from a established American manufacturer, and stop worrying about it. Practice with whatever cheap ball you can find often. IMO, people worry too much about the bestest most magical round that will put someone down so effectively that it will actually take less than 1 round to do it (sarcasm) and don't think enough about there ability to get that round into the target in the first place.

I'll add that I like to find LEO over runs/surplus in 50 round boxes and buy a bunch so that I'm assured of the shoots strait and reliability.

Me too, I've picked up LEO contract over run HST's and Rangers at killer prices places like SGAmmo. It would be hard to go wrong with HST's, Rangers or Gold dots.... Kind of the defensive ammo trifecta for most pistol calibers.
