Andrew Jackson was a shooter. In addition to military success in campaigns against Indian tribes and the Spanish, he was the Hero of New Orleans defeating the British in the War of 1812, albeit weeks after the Peace Treaty had been signed. He was in at least three duels and bore the ball from one such wound to his deathbed. He was a populist, slave owner, and founder of the Democratic Party.
This is an alleged copy of one of a set of dueling pistols made for Jackson in the later 1820s by Philip Creamer:
Harriet Tubman was a shooter. She was an escaped slave. She undertook numerous missions to convey slaves to Canada along the underground railroad to Canada, armed with a pistol and saber. During the Late Unpleasantness Between the States, she acted as an armed scout for Union forces and participated in the Combahee River Raid. She was a Republican.
Her pistol and sword:
Anyone able to ID the pistol?
Later in life, armed with what appears to be one of the RCMP issue Winchester 1873 musketoon's in 40-60 ? Were these rifles only made for the RCMP ? If so, isn't it interesting that she had one?
I am perfectly happy to have a gun-toting Republican replace the founder of the Democratic Party on the $20 bill and was interested in the $20 bill's gun related history.
