This thread made me go look in my gun safe and I realized that I have never paid over $600 for a gun.

I only have 11 guns, and the most I've paid was $600 for my Walther PPQ M1 right after Sandy Hook. My Gen 4 Glock 27 (now shooting 9mm with a LW conversion barrel) was only $400 used with night sights.

$200 Taurus G2 and the $300 Remington RM380. I own more expensive firearms, e.g., a Sig P238, P938, Shield 40, ect, but prefer to carry the G2 and RM...

Me either, and I doubt I ever will. When I start to get into that price range, I rather spend my money on a long gun. All of my handguns were $500 or lower.

My primary is a Glock 27, I have about $375 in the used gun, $30 in a Blade Tech Clipit IWB holster. It came with night sights, so-------I'm into it for right at $400.

In fall and winter I carry a Glock 23, in spring and summer a Glock 26. In spring/summer I'm just wearing button ups, polo's or t-shirts untucked and in fall and winter I vary between a jacket, a hoodie or a flannel. So the shorter grip on the G26 is a little easier to conceal than the G19 or G23 sized grip even with a 12 rd mag in it.

With Glocks if there's some holster wear or a ding it's not that big a deal. They're working/user guns, compare that with accidentally scratching the crap out of or getting a great deal of wear on a Nighthawk or Wilson Combat 1911.

In a way and for some applications and uses that's kind of what I like about Glock, the S&W M&P, the Sig 320 and the other run of the mill polymer pistols. They're all generic clones of each other, you know exactly what you're getting and there are very few differences between pistols of the same model.

A Glock 23 is a Glock 23. Put your money into the vending machine and out tumbles a Glock (or an M&P or a Sig 320 or whatever) and you know exactly what to expect. Very few variations between even a tarted up polymer gat and a base model.

What mods do you have on your Glock that raised the price by $3-400??

This wasn't directed at me, but I'm going to guess probably stippling, maybe a grip reduction, maybe an extended slide stop, possibly a Nickel Boron slide and then maybe Trijicon or other Hi-Visibility front and rear sights.

For instance I traded a Glock 42 fitted with Traction Grips and with a three mags for this Gen 4 G23 that was configured like that.

B4171501-CD69-4C47-92DF-D68BBA5A8CF3_zpsfwfvhqkt.gif

The grip of the G42 was just too small for me and my draw times with the Glock 42 were really slow in comparison with my other pistols. The Glock 42 I traded him also had both a +2 rd Ghost extension and a +1 Mag-Guts follower, one regular 6 rd flush magazine and one mag that had a pinkie extension and a +1 Mag-Guts follower. I don't know how much the grip stippling and the NiB slide and barrel and the Trijicon night sights on the G23 cost.

I'd love to hear guesstimates if anyone has any idea on how much the work would cost.

It cost me a little over $500 because the G42 I traded him I got into pretty cheap. Also the Gen 3 G26 I have was $400-something, a buddy did the stippling on that one and it's just on the front and rear of the grip rather than the whole thing. So between the two pistols that I trade out between depending on the season I chose the $500-$600 option. A replacement blue label G26 or G23 would cost me less than $450 but one of the two obviously costs more than $500, so that's the option on the poll that what I went with.

Police Evidence Room :

On the topic of if a carry pistol ends up in police custody, if either one of my current carry pistols ends up in the evidence room that's okay, that's what their purpose is. In my case I have a CZ-75 Compact that was in Police custody for awhile and the Police Dept just used steel wire to keep the barrel open and flagged and then they sealed it in a plastic bag along with the ammo.

The wire used scratched up both the barrel and the trigger guard and the whole thing was also covered in this greasy white finger print powder and that was a gigantic pain to clean off. All in all I was expecting much worse. Wished they'd used a frigging zip tie instead of steel wire, but whatever.

Picking up a Glock 37 for 299.00 this weekend. That will become my new carry.

Once in a while I carry my 2 1/2" Diamondback which is worth about as much as the rest of the cc rotation. Love the sixth shot, the slight stack in DA and the adjustable sights. Worry about a scratch or blue wear. But, as I'm getting up in years, I guess I'll let the kids sort it out later.
Life is too short to carry an ugly gun.

I switch between my HK P30 and Judge public defender depending on the weather.

The HK is valued at 1K new and the judge was 500 New.
- Looking to get a LC9S - PRO.

it's a matter of how much you feel your life is worth.

Me?

>$3k.

what are you carrying that is over $3000?

and more importantly, what does it do that a $500 gun doesnt?

well....function presumably........ive never seen a (new) $100 gun that i would bet my life on.....

yet the exact same thing could be said for your price point. Is someone whom can only afford a Hi-Point not as deserving as you?

not really sure why you think i feel they are not as deserving as me......i never really stated anything to that effect.

i stated i dont know of any $100 pistols that i would rely on.......i mean, would you trust a Jennings or a Cobray to function when you need it?

and Hipoints are going for closer to $180 in my area.....

Me?

>$3k.

No, it really isn't.

For most of us money is finite.

I think the marginal utility of a $3k pistol vs a well chosen $300-$600 is very small, at best. That extra money could be spent on something else that is also relevant to your health, life, and safety. Even if we keep it on guns, that $2,500 or so could buy a good bit of training. Or maybe it buys a safer more reliable vehicle. Or maybe first aid training or supplies. Or maybe food and water to stock in case of an emergency. Or maybe savings to make sure you can make the mortgage/rent if something goes awry. Or or or

what does your 500 dollar gun do, that a 100 dollar one doesn't????

It works. Consistently. Thousands of flawless rounds. It has readily available magazines, holsters, night sights, etc, everywhere. It has a factory that will cover problems if I have them (purchased new or even in some cases used). It is available basically whenever and wherever I want at that price, and in duplicate for backups. It shoots well, as in, the trigger is pretty good, consistent, and not hard to hit with effectively. I don't know of any $100 pistols that meet that description. Neither do you.

yet the exact same thing could be said for your price point. Is someone whom can only afford a Hi-Point not as deserving as you?

I suspect you are trying very hard to troll.

Nobody who knows anything would say you can't buy guns for ~$500 and expect them to be reliable.

That's also one hell of a straw man you just created.

Its not about you at all. Its about labeling a Price point period.

Fact is: you pull the trigger and it goes bang.. You can get that for less than a 100 bucks or well over 100,000.00

Like I said earlier in this thread. perceived price points are based on your wallet and nothing more.

*for the record I do not own a Hi-Point, but by most accounts they are functional reliable guns. I have, however, owned a few Jennings and Bryco's back when they were only 30-45 bucks. As crazy as it sounds, I did carry them. :what: yet I am still here... ****Yes they were pieces of junk but that is all I had.

Let's see examples, please.

Show us the <$100 guns that will do everything the $500 guns do.

You are wrong BTW. $100 guns don't do everything that more expensive guns do.

Yeah the purchase package for this one usually includes a diamond ring and other goodies. Referring to lady with the gun.

My EDC is a Sig P239 which is box stock except for Crimson Trace Laser Sight. Tucker IWB holster. Total about $1K

I paid about $240.00 for this old .45. Now days the grips are worth more than that.

am I????

Do they not go "bang"? i.e. fire a lead projectile.

your thinking about your pocketbook again...

Reading through this thread, I'm reminded of a co-worker of mine, constantly rags on me for the money I spend on firearms ... Ironically, he drives a $45,000 truck, bought his wife a brand-new Cadillac CTS, recently spent (according to him) over a grand buying a new pure-bred show puppy (one of those little yippy dog breeds), sports a new (600 dollar) IPhone6, brags about his newest 80-inch TV, yet carries ... a $300 Taurus.

Priorities.

This statement:

Is indeed representative of priorities ... $300? Nothing out there I'd bet my life on. $600? About the minimum for many. Nevertheless, I'm sure I'm not the only one here who would disagree with that statement.

Polish P-64. $160 back in 2010. My father also bought one at the same time. At the time, I was living in Arizona, and J&G Sales is located in Prescott. We made the trip up there one weekend and handpicked our guns.

$300? Sometimes, sure. That's getting into used though. There are plenty of used, trade-in, etc, firearms for about $300 that could be considered if you get the right deal. Screaming deals on old .38spl or .357 revolvers or LE trade in Glocks and the like.

Then there are budget guns like, say, the Canik TP9

Can't think of a time in the last decade when I've carried a handgun that I didn't have a duplicate for or couldn't replace for $500. Unless I was grouse or rabbit hunting when I sometimes carry a $1000. Kimber with a 22 conversion.
