In a bind: Gotta sell a couple revolvers...

Sounds great POPER

Maybe you try something like this:

Go with an auction stating that it is being offered locally as well. Factor in costs of shipping/transfer through an auction if it goes outa state, then, if the numbers aren't looking good to you towards the end of the auction - give me a call a day or two out to get a look at it.

I'd dig a used .44 for sure if the numbers and remaining service life are right.

Could just be you'd be surprised by auction results. Be sure to include a lot of quality pictures of what you know is wrong and what you'd look for in particular.

Support your listing well with significant though not overwhelming descriptive text.

In short, make it clear that you are not hiding anything and respond quickly and directly to any "reasonable" questions over the course of the listing.

In any case - I like your general numbers so if we can work something out, cool enough.

Todd.

Again, I am no expert on these guns.
The Colt is a late 2nd Generation New Frontier with CCH frame and 7-1/2" blued finish barrel. It has been fired and shows a cylinder turn line. Total finish on the gun i s probably 85%-90%. It is tight with an excellent trigger, excellent bore and shoots very accurately. I would not call it "collector grade". It is a damn nice shooter, though.

BTW, are you up there by Show Low and Snowflake?

That'd be the "Apache County" reference, right? Usually, unfortunately, we're down here in "The Valley" but spend as much time up in Nutrioso at our "mountain home" as possible. Some day, we'll get it right and the circumstances will be reversed.

Todd.

I know it's not what you are looking for "poper" but you will be in my prayers. I hope things work out for you.
Thank you, ArchAngelCD.
Tough times have always seemed to work out in the past. This one has a strangely different feel, though.

Thanks again for all the prayers and well wishes from everyone.

Poper
My prayers for you and your for wife, life sometimes give us hard times, both of you keep strong and united.

You see the 2nd gen New Frontiers NIB for around $2000. A well used example will be 2/3 of that especially with the long barrel. Stuff that makes a gun more functional doesnt necessarily make it more valuable in the Colt world.

Like a couple have said, Gunbroker will get you fair-market or at least give you an idea of what it will bring in. I have found that Gunauction.com (formerly auctionarms.com) is a better venue for collectibles.

Sorry for your troubles...positive thoughts your way...

Poper-trying to find your Smith on GB, what's your description and seller name?

Poper,

Your GB ads are very, very well done and you should get top dollar for your guns. Both are absolute beauties and I think prospective buyers will feel comfortable bidding them up. It'll probably go beyond my limit but I'll assure you it'll bring more than its current bid. :)

Best wishes to you and your wife!

Thank you. All well wishes and prayers are humbly accepted.
I think Apache Co. Todd will say I am modest in my condition appraisals of my guns. He bought the 2nd Gen. Colt SAA New Frontier in .44 Special. Nice guy.

I need to get him out onto the silhouette range one of these days.....:)

Yup - I'll speak for that!

Didn't want to say anything till invited but, yup, it was hugely undersold and even good photos would have likely not done it justice.

I had to have it once seen but it is in fact too nice for me to be hauling around in a holster to get scuffed and banged up.

I'd have popped for the .38 as well but just, well, aw hell, now I've bid on that too!

I've been wanting to crow about my .44 but didn't want to put it up out of respect for confidentiality - but now...

Gotta go back and see how my bidding's doing. Were I to win it, can we meet up again? Maybe at the range, eh?

Todd.

Certainly, Todd. But you'll have to shoot it (K38), because I have just not been able to bring myself to do it. It's just too dang nice.

I'll bring my shooter quality 4" Python along for the party, tho! :D

Oh, I get that.

Remember, we talked about my conundrum with the NIB unfired Colt autos that I have.

A mere 6 or seven individual rounds spread across my rack of 1911s would calm a lot of anxiety on my part.

Todd.

Yes, I do remember.
Looks to me like you are easily satisfied, tho! :D

It takes at least a box or two before I feel the stress oozing away, these days. Definitely therapeutic, for sure.
With all the stress and tension lately, it's either go out to BASF and shoot a hundred high power rifle rounds, a couple hundred revolver rounds or bust my hump with yard work and car washing duties to get some relief.
I was able to get some high power relief today. :)

Not for me. Just 1 round... 1 stinkin' round and it's over and I'm past it.

But that first round? It's a bear! At least though, unlike vehicles, firearms don't rot from neglect.

Of course a revolver - that's different. It has six chambers (usually) so it needs a full cylinder to take the gloss off the pumpkin.

Todd.

It has days to go. Why would anyone bid on anything before the last few minutes of an auction unless they just like driving the price out of range?

I am sure there always those people that hope to be able to get a bargain under the radar and that nobody else will see it. And that might happen once in a blue moon. But mostly, people use the auto bid feature. I.E. Enter a bid with a maximum amount they are willing to pay for the item and let the auto bid feature bid for them whenever a bid comes in less than their maximum bid.
There are those that will try to snipe a GunBroker auction, but any bid within the last 15 minutes resets the clock to 15 minutes before the auction ends. Probably the closest thing to a live auction you can get online. The auction doesn't end until the bidding actually stops.

I ez snipe everything, Bidding early with the auto bid feature only helps to drive the price up. Even on gunbroker auctions where they prolong the auction at the end it makes sense to use use the ezsniper. Unless you are bidding against someone using the same thing it keeps the price down to reasonable levels.
