Maybe you try something like this:

Go with an auction stating that it is being offered locally as well. Factor in costs of shipping/transfer through an auction if it goes outa state, then, if the numbers aren't looking good to you towards the end of the auction - give me a call a day or two out to get a look at it.

I'd dig a used .44 for sure if the numbers and remaining service life are right.

Could just be you'd be surprised by auction results. Be sure to include a lot of quality pictures of what you know is wrong and what you'd look for in particular.

Support your listing well with significant though not overwhelming descriptive text.

In short, make it clear that you are not hiding anything and respond quickly and directly to any "reasonable" questions over the course of the listing.

In any case - I like your general numbers so if we can work something out, cool enough.

That'd be the "Apache County" reference, right? Usually, unfortunately, we're down here in "The Valley" but spend as much time up in Nutrioso at our "mountain home" as possible. Some day, we'll get it right and the circumstances will be reversed.

You see the 2nd gen New Frontiers NIB for around $2000. A well used example will be 2/3 of that especially with the long barrel. Stuff that makes a gun more functional doesnt necessarily make it more valuable in the Colt world.

Like a couple have said, Gunbroker will get you fair-market or at least give you an idea of what it will bring in. I have found that Gunauction.com (formerly auctionarms.com) is a better venue for collectibles.

Your GB ads are very, very well done and you should get top dollar for your guns. Both are absolute beauties and I think prospective buyers will feel comfortable bidding them up. It'll probably go beyond my limit but I'll assure you it'll bring more than its current bid.

Didn't want to say anything till invited but, yup, it was hugely undersold and even good photos would have likely not done it justice.

I had to have it once seen but it is in fact too nice for me to be hauling around in a holster to get scuffed and banged up.

I'd have popped for the .38 as well but just, well, aw hell, now I've bid on that too!

I've been wanting to crow about my .44 but didn't want to put it up out of respect for confidentiality - but now...

Gotta go back and see how my bidding's doing. Were I to win it, can we meet up again? Maybe at the range, eh?

Remember, we talked about my conundrum with the NIB unfired Colt autos that I have.

A mere 6 or seven individual rounds spread across my rack of 1911s would calm a lot of anxiety on my part.

Not for me. Just 1 round... 1 stinkin' round and it's over and I'm past it.


But that first round? It's a bear! At least though, unlike vehicles, firearms don't rot from neglect.

Of course a revolver - that's different. It has six chambers (usually) so it needs a full cylinder to take the gloss off the pumpkin.

It has days to go. Why would anyone bid on anything before the last few minutes of an auction unless they just like driving the price out of range?

I ez snipe everything, Bidding early with the auto bid feature only helps to drive the price up. Even on gunbroker auctions where they prolong the auction at the end it makes sense to use use the ezsniper. Unless you are bidding against someone using the same thing it keeps the price down to reasonable levels.
