New Gunbroker format...

After a couple days with it I still HATE it. I wonder how much hate mail they're getting in addition to mine?

It runs slower for me (and I have super-fast internet), I have to look around for info and functions that have been moved, a few things I still haven't found, or if I find them, I've forgotten how I found them by the time I want the feature again.

I think they did it because they think it's better for mobile platforms, but they should have an option for the classic view on desktops at least. As is, a pointless an annoying change for me, and results in me shopping around about half as much as I used to. That's probably a good thing, so them driving me away is actually in my best interest. :)

Its human nature to dislike change. The more I use it the easier it is. Like the ability to view pictures larger at the click of a mouse. Haven't bid yet so it may be easier. Scrolling to the bottom was always a pain with the old format.

Still hate it.

Ok, I have had a week of trying to get familiar with the new format. I have 78 guns listed and a dozen more to list. I sold three and bought two and always print the buyer/sellers contact info. It takes me twice as long to check my listings and print out sales or purchases. The new GB format sucks.

I wrote GB Support about it -- that it loads and responds slower for some of us, doesn't seem to be as user friendly on desk top, and noted that there seems to be a lot of on-line agreement that the old version was superior, and certainly perferred. I asked if they could also make the classic view an option for those of us who don't like the new version.

They responded with what came across as, You people don't know what you're talking about, the new version is better for phones and tablets, so stick it.

So, all you fools ;) out there in fly-over country, keep patronizing GB. Kind of like the government, THEY know what's best for us.

<shrug> I guess I just don't get my panties all in a bunch as quickly & easily as some over such stuff.

And, yes, I realize that your response (and post comment) probably has more to do with their cavalier attitude towards your input than the new format. :)

I have been using them for 15 years and will continue to do so.

The idea that the new format works better with phones & pads is rather eye-opening, though. Currently, I would not use either for Gunbroker, but there are probably a whole lot of folks who do (and probably more every day).

To be clear, I meant the "fly-over country" remark as seemingly their view when a lot of their customers are expressing dissatisfaction with what they've done to the product that we've been buying from them.

It is not my view of people who keep patronizing GB. I, too, will continue to patronize GB because it's a service/product that I enjoy and value. It just irritates me that they don't also offer the classic view if they feel compelled to make a dramatic change that many long-time customers don't like, and that they're so dismissive when customers raise issues.

Guess you don't realize they have their own apps too. :)

Handy for bidding/watch list..not so much for just searching as it lacks some of the filters the regular webpage has. I.e. Searching for an O/U shotgun you cannot filter 32"/12ga/ etc.. You just left with browsing all O/H's

I'm a fairly new Gunbroker user and I've bought three guns recently. I actually like the new format. I ebay a lot and it reminds me of ebay's format.

I wonder if different operating systems interpret it differently now?

I for one, am sick of change for change's sake or to justify designer's and engineers salaries so can sympathize with the OP on being uncomfortable with it.

Todd.
Todd,
You sound like me talking about AutoCad! I swear AutoDesk would change the menus just so they could say they changed something and could "justify" a new release that would cost you $1,000 and about 3 weeks productivity until you relearned the locations of the commands you used most often. Change for the sake of change, indeed!

I do not care for the new way used to 'view other items' from the seller.

I reckon it (the sideways scrolling) is geared for smartphones.

Watching someone on one working their thumbs at the rapid pace
while staring intently at the screen just looks too much like the new way
of twiddling one's thumbs to pass time and has kept me from making the leap into 4G.

Now I find the only way to search under the old format is to go to the advanced 'search by seller' and
use 'copy and paste' to more quickly view several pages of items.

+1. I've kinda-sorta got used to the new format, though the old one was fine imho, but it is noticeably slower for me. We have very fast Internet access and I normally access said site from a very high end, custom built Win 7 (64-bit) workstation and/or a MacBook Air notebook. That and if I'm not logged in, I see stupid pop-ups despite running multiple adblockers (Adblock, UBlock, and Ghostery).

(shrug) Progress is fine. But slow speeds and idiotic content isn't progress.

Pics are smaller and hard to see detail on. That is a big negative for a buyer.

There is now a "Classic View" option on the left side right above Item Description on the auction page. Looks like lighting the torches worked.

Excellent. Too bad one has to click on it with every auction though.
