New HK VP9!

Ok, I got a chance to shoot it today after a doctor's apt. Shoots very well. Worked 100% with both FMJ and JHP.
From previous experience with 9mm HKs - it is suggested at the HK Pro forum to shoot 50-100 rounds of WWB NATO 9mm to help break in the recoil spring on the P2000 and P30 series. So, I did that with this gun. I had 100 rounds, but I started with 50 rounds of 124gr NATO. Then I shot regular 115gr WWB FMJ, and all worked well. Also shot 10 rounds of JHP. Worked fine as well.
I shot the gun as accurately as I shoot my Berettas. I will state that the Beretta 92 is still my favorite platform. But, I did notice that the sight radius of the VP9 is the same, if not a tiny, tiny bit bigger than the 92FS. So, I like the longer sight radius on the VP9.
I did have a Glock 17 up until a few months ago. I will admit that I shoot both the G17 and the VP9 the same. I do tend to like HKs more than Glocks, though. And, I also like the rear grip pieces at the end of the slide on the VP9. I think that is great to use if your hand is slippery. And, for women that have issues working a slide - I think they could really help some.
Here is a quick photo of a target with 5 shots at 7 yards. I was still playing around on how much finger to put on the trigger (just the pad, versus all of the finger up to the first joint). That is why they were pulled abit to the side. I had other shots land dead center.
But this was 5 shots. I thought that was pretty good...

Nice pistol. Looks like the sights need to be drifted ever so slightly to the right.
Let us know how it does at 25 yards if you can, curious where the groups will land in relation to the sights.

What distance with what ammunition?
I have an HK45 that shot under the dot at 7 yards, but stretched out to the 25 yard line and it was shooting 7" high with 230gr ball.

OK cool. My younger brother bought one of these last year (well his is the black "ninja" edition ha ha ha) at my suggestion and I shot it last month (we live 500 miles apart), his shot pretty well to the sights out to 25 yards with cheap 115gr FMJ more or less hitting under the dot. Very nice pistol I'm kind of jealous. Can't decide if I want a VP9 or a USP Expert in 9mm next. Yes I know they are pretty different pistols, I just made the mistake of handling an Expert. I am in lust. If it had an FDE frame I would have shelled out the $1200 for it right then and there.
Just checking to see if that is something that can be consistently relied on with HK's after my HK45 experience. I prefer a sight picture where the bullet hits to the top of the front sight, but that is just preference. At close ranges on large targets shooting under the dot is just fine.

Trajectories for 9mm and .45 will be a bit different, and my current pistol may be fluke. It needed a considerably taller front sight, and now shoots to POA no problem.
I had a USP 45 at one time and it did better with the sights it came with, but I replaced them with adjustable sights shortly after I bought the pistol. I used to shoot bullseye, so I'm picky about the sights being well regulated.

Which variant?
I fired a DA/SA (no safety, just decocker) P30 side by side with a VP9 recently. After doing that I have no interest in a P30 lol. I haven't tried an LEM trigger though

The VP9 trigger feels crisper than the P30 trigger. I like DA/SA systems, but I recognize I'm in the minority there.

This is purely subjective as most trigger discussions are......
I have a VP9
I also have a P30L, that started out as a V3 (DA/SA) then was converted to a V0 (light LEM, with spurred hammer and decocking function) long separate story as to why I like the V0 VS V1.
I'm not a fan of DA/SA, so in this category the VP9 trigger for me wins hands down, as I prefer a consistent trigger.
Buuut, in the light LEM, I prefer the P30L over the striker VP9 for a "defensive" trigger, as I like the longish take-up, then clean break for the 1st shot.
The P30, does have the longish reset, which IMHO isn't an issue once you're used to it. But if you switch pistols frequently and have learned to shoot to reset on any other pistols with a shorter reset, it can be annoying. When I bounce from one of my Les Baers, or Walthers I will end up short-stroking the P30 at some point. I've sent my P30L to Lazy Wolf Guns for a reset reduction and it should be back in a couple weeks.
So for a strictly range gun/IDPA gun, I like the VP9.
For a defensive pistol I prefer the trigger on the P30 (I also have 2 other LEM HKs and am getting a 4th). You really have to spend some time with an LEM to get the knack of it and appreciate what it offers. Basically the warm fuzzy of holstering a hammer fired gun, the safety of a DA/SA 1st shot, with the consistent trigger of a striker/SA.
Overall, IF I could only have 1, I'd have the P30. I don't know why, but to me the P30 (L in my case) just shoots, feels, points etc. better for me. I don't dislike the VP9, but it is my least favorite HK.
It really is subjective....good news is, if you go with a P30 V3, you can always convert it later.........
