Starline brass??

It looks unanimous, everyone thinks Starline is good brass. I wish they would start making rifle brass.

Remember if you buy directly from starline, apart from being much cheaper, there's free shipping....i. bought a 1000 brass of 44 mag last year in preparation for buying a 44 mag and ive working on the 2nd reloading. No issues with it.
Just got another order delivered for 1000 357 mag as well last week to supplement my other 1200 cases.

Starline is going to make rifle brass.Ad page 8 August Handloader .308 and .300 Blackout first others to follow.

I have 1500 357 brass pieces from starline and 500 44 mag, and a few under 44 spl. They have all been firing fine to me. The only issue I had was the primer pocket on one batch of 357 brass was extremely hard to hand prime. The starline folks said run it through the tumbler first. I did that, and made it easier to prime.

I am a very happy starline brass customer.

Just got my shipment of 100 starline 44mag brass and it looks a little chincy.

I don't have very much experience with 44mag but compared to my 9mm,38,45-70 cases the brass seems thin especially around the rim of the case. The rim doesn't seem very thick or strong. They also shipped them loose in a box marked midway usa.

I'm a little worried about loading these now.
"The brass seems thin especially around the rim of the case" is not a quantitative measurement.
That's like saying 1/4 case full of Bullseye doesnt seem like a lot of powder.
When in doubt find the specification and take some measurements.
Starline brass is excellent brass but that doesn't mean that something didnt go wrong in production.
Here is a link to the SAAMI specification for 44Remington Magnum.
As you can see the specification for rim thickness is 0.060-0.011 so the rim thickness can be anywhere between 0.049" and 0.060" and be in spec.
If you are reloading you must have a set of vernier calipers so get them out and start taking measurements.
Don't forget to let us know what your findings are.

Been using them for many years. Fine brass. My load for a HOT (listed in my manuals)240 Gr. lead simi wad cutter with H110/Win 296 25 Grs. shot out of both my Marlin and a 10inch Ruger Black Hawk. However they are a little hard on the hands.

I'll add another pro Starline comment.
They've been making top-notch .357 cases for years, and now I know first hand they also make top-notch .45/70 Gov't cases.

Sure hope they decide to make .375 Winchester cases soon.

Ohi, I was literally in the exact same boat.
I bought my first 44mag brass (from Starline) from the Cabella's at Polaris, got it home and looking at it next to my 38 brass, it looked a little more fragile. It's just because the scale is so different. I had more or less the same thought when I started loading 500mag too. It's just hard to compare them to each other. They're just different classes of cartridges entirely almost.
After I bought my first 100pcs of 44mag Starline brass, it worked so well, I've been buying a bag here and there when I stop in. Still have all 100, but I've got a nice little stash set aside now too.

Matren, what kinda numbers are you getting out of your 375 Winchester? I'm wondering if any of the other ohio cartridges are any flatter shooting than the 357max.

don't own a 375.

gotboost: I've seen mid 23s without pushing 200s hard. (RE 7 & 322)

Elkins: I've seen exactly a hundred unfired ones in the past year, but want no part of paying that for cases.

GBE: Nope, just load for a fella that has a Match Grade Machine barrel that fits Encore's that I'm welcome to use.

In thirty some years of reloading, I never considered brass from a reputable source as being cheaply made. I figured they would be made to spec and that should be good enough. I never gave it much thought or compared cases from one cartridge with another.

Note, I can't say the same for off brand or foreign cases. I find the problems with them when they do not fit my reloading gear, not that they fail prematurely in the gun.

I guess I am naive.:)

Sorry to continue the "broken record" theme of this tread, but Starline brass is good stuff. If nothing else, it has been available in large quantities while other major brands of cases have been hit or miss over the pass several years.

I like keeping an inventory of new cases on hand especially for cartridges that are hard to find even on a good day. Buying direct from Starline, if they have a particular cartridge in stock, large quantities, 500 to 1000, are available.

My .44mag Starline brass is on its 5th loading  and still going strong... I got it via buying loaded BVAC rounds (don't recall ever paying for empty brass). Good luck, YMMV. :)

My Starline 44mag brass has been trouble free. I did need to trim a few of them when new.

I bought 500 44 magnum cases from Midway with the Midway headstamp back in 1988. I'm pretty sure all of the Midway headstamped pistol brass was made by Starline.

I still have all 500 today. Same story with 500 357 magnum cases, except that I have accidentally split a few of them when they got mixed in with 38s and had their mouths overly flared. Some of that 357 brass is probably on its 30th full-power loading.

Thanks guys.

I psych myself out sometimes when it comes to reloading. I'm not trying to hurt myself or anyone else so that's why I asked. as I said I have no experience with this so wanted to be safe.
ohihunter2014, being safe is always the right way to go. Asking questions is far easier than picking bits of exploded firearm out of yourself, assuming you're still capable of manipulation of your digits after such a mishap.

He's just a new reloader asking questions, and he got his answer, which is that Starline is good stuff.

Yep, but my advice would be to come here and ask first about product quality before you puts your money down. Altho 100 pieces of .44 mag brass is not a huge investment, as one continues down the costly road of reloading, buying bulk is what really saves us reloaders money. There is no savings in bulk when good money goes towards crap components. Forums like this are a good source of weeding out what is good and what is crap, but only if that info is gleaned before the purchase.

Just sayin'.........

I like Starline brass. They made a few calibers that I reload you can't get very easy. It's good stuff.

Starline is the best available. I can not wait until they have .223.

Just got two STARLINE bags of 100 .44 cases each. Seems like pretty good stuff to me. Came from Cabelas when I found a discounted price. Not sure why people are saying they only come in bags of 500.
If you order from Starline, its either 500 or 1000.
