Any comments on UTG PRO quality recently?

I have one of their super slim rails, the ones that predated the new keymod ones. I love it. I actually like it better than the Midwest rail. It's not as good as the real high dollar rails, but I like it better than anything that is even remotely similar in price.



That said, I'm not an expert in rails, nor do I use them hard. I'm just basing my opinions on fit, finish, and how well designed they are.

Personally i feel that if u arnt using the rail as a place to attach a sight, or as a club, it really comes.down to how much u want to spend, and what you like the looks of. I would always check the barrel nuts for square before using them but other than that i dont see how a slightly out of spec handguard would mater, as long as it dosent touch anything.

I've never been able to figure out what makes them "not as good as the real high dollar rails". They are solid and the slimmest I could find, and have worked really well for me.

They are so slim you might have issues with their custom barrel nut on a bull barrel (I did), beyond that one problem, I've mounted half a dozen of various lengths and been extremely satisfied with the performance, the relatively low price is icing on the cake to me, and why I have six instead of just two or three.

Also, be aware they are too slim for most suppressors to fit inside if you want the hand-guard to protrude past the barrel threads.


There is a little "tab" that brackets the upper that makes it look like a monolithic at a quick glance, this can interfere with some slightly non-standand "enhanced" uppers.

I know everyone says not to mount an optic on them, but that never stops me from trying I've a scope in a one piece mount that "bridges" the upper and hand-guard rail (I really needed it further forward than the last rail on the upper and didn't want to spend for an even more cantilevered mount, its worked great for me. I've also put a red dot on the handguard and its solid enough that I've never readjusted the sight, although its only a 50-100 yard pistol caliber carbine, but to me much more distance than that and dot optics are the wrong choice. YMMV.

I hate that little "clamp" protrusion on the bottom of the Midwest and some other hand-guards, but I guess its a necessary evil if you want/need to stay with the standard barrel nut.

No issues with the one I have, I would buy another one.

I have three of the UTG Pro models - they seem to be high quality, well machined, and durable.

I have one of the super slim models and have been very happy with it.

I have two super slim keymods: 9" and 13". The quality is very good. The design is KISS simple.

The upper end UTG rails just arent much less expensive than "name brand" rails. I mean, with a UTG Pro 15" rail running $125-$150, why not spend another $10-$20 on a mainstream rail? You can get a 15" ALG rail, about as nice as they come, for $140- $165.


Why save almost nothing for an inferior product? And yes, it is simply inferior. Worse fit, worse finish, worse quality control and worse customer service. Is the $20 savings worth it? I think not. Your mileage however may vary.

I plan on buying one soon. It looks and feels every bit as good as my Midwest.
The old "UTG air soft crap" is long gone.

I put an M-Lok 17" rail on an upper with an 18" barrel. Very happy with fit, finish and function. It's a long-o rail, though. Being so slim makes it look even longer.

And yes, it is simply inferior. Worse fit, worse finish, worse quality control and worse customer service.

Dunno about their customer service, but the UTG Pro is made of the same materials (6061-T6 series aluminum) and has no worse fit, finish, or QC (across my sample set of 3 UTG Pros) than my MI SSII's or JP's or YHMs.

And yes - I got the UTG Pro 13" for $75 less each than what, say, the MI SSII would have cost me. That's not insignificant.

I prefer to judge quality by what I have in my hand rather than the "name".

I've found some great quality from companies that have been trashed badly by others as selling only crap.

By the same token I've had some real crap come from big name companies that tout the quality of their produce.

If purchasing across the counter, judge for yourself. If buying online, make sure the seller has a favorable return policy so you can send anything that's junk, back.

I've seen UTG Pros showing up at competitions and they are GTG. They are going to, IMHO, beat out anything that attaches to a standard barrel nut. I don't think the "crap" label is justified, but that doesn't mean they are alone in their market share. Make a decision based on features, not on internet hearsay.

The cheap line is just that, and comparable to a lot of other imported stuff.

The US made pro series, however, I really like. I have a few of the FF quad rails and a couple of the FF super slim critters. I think they compare very favorable to the big name hand guards, at a price point that is quite a bit lower. I certainly like my MI SSK handguards, but the UTG super slim is actually slimmer, and does have a little smoother semi-gloss finish if that's your preference.
