What (if any) are my options?

I would like to select a 9mm or 40 compact for carry during colder weather when I'm wearing a sweatshirt or jacket. My summer carry gun is a Kahr P9 single stack, but I could comfortably get away with carrying a compact gun when I'm not just wearing a polo or T shirt.

I aim to limit my choices to guns holding 14-15 in 9mm or 12-13 in 40. I also am excluding striker fired guns in favor of traditional DA guns with a hammer. Polymer would be nice to hold down the weight, but alloy is OK, and smaller is better. As a metric, a hammer fired Glock 19 would be ideal. A Sig P226 is probably too big.

Some great options might be the Beretta PX4 or CZ P-07, except for the one other thing I would really like: an instinctive activation laser. Crimson Trace doesn't make a laser for either of them.

Is there a:

Small
Light
High capacity
Hammer fired
LaserGrip capable

9mm I have overlooked?

Excluding striker fired guns takes out a huge chunk that would otherwise fit the bill. When you compound it further by saying you want lightweight that takes out a huge chunk of what's left. I'm not coming up with anything off the top of my head, but I'm thinking maybe one of the Ruger guns might fit the bill.

Taking lightweight out of the equation puts a 3rd generation Smith on the table. What else?

I know 99% of readers think "just get a Glock" but I prefer the long DA initial trigger pull. The DAK Sig trigger is one I shoot really well. Hmmm.... Sig P229?

I would suggest a "Walther P99 AS" except that it dosen't have a hammer, although it can do anything a hammer fired 9mm can (including double-strike capability.

I'd think the obvious answer would have been the SIG 250

You can even switch between the different grip/slide modules to pick the size you like best

How about a SIG SP2022? Not super small but relatively lightweight, high capacity, hammer fired, and Crimson Trace makes a laser grip for it.

What is your rationale for not wanting a striker fired gun?
It's not actually the striker that concerns me, it's the short trigger pull. All of my other carry guns have the long DA pull, and for continuity sake I want this one to have it as well.

I have Crimson Trace's on my Sig 2022. Shown here with a 229:

I would call it more mid-size then small, but it's ~close~ to a G19.

There's also the 228/229 route. (I'm a huge fan of that size 9mm, hammer fired, DA/SA for carry.)

Honestly, cruising through CT's website that's about it.

Considering your requirements I think you'll be stuck with a Sig 229 which, at 5.4" in height, is more of a full sized handgun than compact (same height as a Glock 17).

Personally I would dump the lasergrip requirement (I personally find them useless) and look at the CZ P-07. It is essentially your "Glock 19 with a hammer". Right about 5" overall height (my sweet spot for easy concealment), nice DA/SA trigger, light, accurate, reliable.

With what you are looking for, I'd go with a CZ PCR or P01, or with a SIG P250. Actually, I have...I have had a P250 Compact in .45 for a couple years now and I just bought a CZ P01. Great guns, hammer fired, carriable, and easy to add a laser. One nice aspect of the P250 is that you can buy caliber x-change kits and/or grip modules and have one gun with multiple caliber and size options.

I got a SAR K2P 9mm a couple months ago, I'm very happy with it, I ordered it from www.GrabAGun.com for $279 it's a clone of CZ.
It holds 17+1, only down side I have seen is it only comes with one magazine.

I plan on throwing a TLR-4 on my P07 when it shows up. Maybe not as elegant a solution as the Crimson trace grips, but should more than suffice.

Good luck on your search...if only the P-07 had a CT grip made for it.

Also congrats on not following the striker fired herd...lots of folks can't stand the peer pressure and cave in to the "there's only one" mentality.
