The following makes me wonder if the well is beginning to run dry:
Unless we're reading different articles at the end of that link, I'm not seeing what you're referring to. All it says is:

EOTech Asks LE Customers to Acknowledge POI Shift Issue Before Shipping Out Sights

How do you read that into, "the well is beginning to run dry"?

I guess what I took away from it was that they're not offering refunds without now at least stating the device has a POI shift issue- limited to just LE agencies. Probably since they'd be returning many devices. May just be my pessimistic side, but I was thinking that might be the first domino falling and that we might possibly see it applied to commercial purchases next. After that? Who knows? An expiration date? I'm sure there are folks trying to scrounge these devices up explicitly to get a full refund check. I'm surprised they didn't establish a end date for returns at the outset.

I'm more surprised they even offered a no questions ask refund in the first place!!
(And more so, the 'Scouts Honor' 'what did you pay for it' question??

This has to be the first of it's kind in any industry.

It would compare to Ford or Chevy giving you a full refund of your purchase price + shipping on your 15 year old car because you decided you didn't like the way the transmission shifts now!!

And not even asking you for proof of the purchase price you paid then.

You're reading it incorrectly

They aren't asking for proof of aiming point shift, or even a statement that the issue exist, before issuing a refund...they aren't issuing a refund at all.

They are asking for a statement that the purchasing agency acknowledges the sight instability exist before shipping units to them.

BTW, this has already applied to commercial purchases...just at a level higher up the chain. They aren't offering refunds to retailers

yep, i did.

i ought to be sleeping at midnight anyway...

I find this topic interesting...

Just out of curiosity, are all of you guys who are returning your Eotechs dissatisfied with them?

What kind of temp. extreme are we talking about to get the POI shift?

Wish I could buy one of these returned items for half price.

I was very happy with mine.

The POI didn't drift enough for me to notice...but I live in CA...and I didn't notice an unusual drain on the batteries. (I was taught, by someone who'd used one in combat, to put fresh batteries (AA) in it before any match or class...they lasted fine in-between)

Mine (512) was pretty old, larger, and heavier than I would have preferred and I might have paid more than I wanted to for it. To be offered full MSRP for old stock was too much to pass up.

If offered a chance to purchase a newer unit for half price, I'd jump on it also

I have not fully committed to sending mine back for a return, but probably will. My Eotech was rock solid in terms of POI for several years, but then again, it was primarily used at indoor ranges, and outdoor ranges in fair weather (65-80 deg). No POI shift.

Two winters ago, I took the rifle out during a chillier day (just at the freezing mark - around 32 deg F) - dry, no wind, just a bit brisk. The POI was a bit off - a bit, but noticeably. Adjusted it at the range. Checked my mounting to be sure it was off.

Following week, back to the balmy indoor range - POI was off again. Adjusted again. Back of my mind, I'm wondering what gremlins are playing with my optics. Call the temperature indoors in the 68-72 deg range ...

Outdoors shortly thereafter on an even chillier day (light flurries), and the POI was off yet again.

At this points the EoTech was retired (though I very much like their reticle), in favor of an Aimpoint Pro.

Near as I can figure, the Eotech needs to be zeroed in approximately the same temperature range as it is used. But, having to re-zero to accomodate a temperature swing of +/-40 degrees seems pretty delicate - for military gear.

I like the reticle so much, I was willing to keep it as a purely fair weather/indoor range optic on on rifle, and the Aimpoint pro on a second rifle for more varied use. But, I'm rethinking that...

2 months ago I purchased 1 Holosun 503c and 3 HS515cs to replace my EOTechs I sent in for a refund. I must say that I'm impressed. I actually like these better than the Eotech. Smaller lighter and a clearer reticle are some of the good points. I have found no bad points. They come with both high and low mounts so buying added mounts is not necessary. The 515c comes with a good QD mount (converts to low mount for use on my MK2 target) quick flash and pop down lens caps. I put them in a bucket of water to test water tight integrity and there were no leaks. They worked perfect at the range also. I also got a Burris 3x magnifier with these and it lines up almost perfect. It is a very good clear optic and easily out does the G33 I had before. The 4 Holosuns and the burris tripler cost less than the Eotech hhs kit and the 512 I sent back. Thought anyone reading this that needs eotech replacements would like these Holosun RDSs. They are not your typical Chinese junk and are very well made. Like I said I am very impressed.

Here is my timeline update:

February 11: Received email stating they got my request for a refund
February 12: Received email with instructions to send in the optic
February 16: UPS picked up my optic
February 23: Confirmed delivery of the optic to EOTech in Ann Arbor, MI
March 16: Received email stating my return was being processed for payment, and to allow 3-4 weeks for the check to arrive
April 18: The check arrived (5 days over their 4 week window)

So it took exactly 55 days from the day they received my optic to the day I received the check.

Today: Deposited check and ordered a Trijicon MRO with full co-witness QD mount.

I received my 414.00 refund from Eotech. Definitely a standup company. I never had problems with mine but never used it either. I am done with these type of sights. I have hunted with scopes all my life and they are fast for me in target acquisition. I purchased 2 leupold 2 x 7 scopes and had money left over for mounts. They are only 9.5 ounces and can be banged around and never go dark. I am not knocking eotech type sights just came to the realization I did better the old way.

For those of you who liked the features of your EOTech but don't want its downsides, you might consider the PK-06 sight from Kalinka Optics. I got one for my AR15 and am extremely happy with it. It's a 1 MOA 3-reticle holo sight for only $200. It's nearly indestructible, too.

Sent mine in on February 18th, got the check (w/o email notification) today, so almost 2 months on the nose, start to finish. :D

i just pulled the trigger on returning an EXP3-2

I'm asking for $700+tax. I recall buying it retail in Jan 2013 for $700. The MSRP is still $679.

I didn't realize they were still offering refunds...I thought there was a cut off date to submit request.

Maybe it was a cut off date as to purchase

They were not happy with my number said historical MSRP was lower than current. Going to add 7.8% sales tax to the number they gave me and resubmit.

Their offer for refund has been said to specifically not include sales tax. The number they gave you is a hint at how much they'll be willing to cover...they know most folks paid less than MSRP

I have heard that they would consider a higher price than MSRP if you had an original sales receipt that they could verify

If you Google search for EOTech refund and "sales tax" you find plenty of people saying sales tax was refunded. I resubmitted and will see what happens. I was on the fence about returning until I took my sighted-in gun out in 110F heat and could not find paper, and could not site in once I did. POI seemed to be moving. I've lost all confidence in the sight.

I applied last week and had an accepted response the following morning. My EOTech will be going back to the mothership as soon as I can get it to the post office. I bought my XPS-2 in 2010 and haven't had any significant problems with it. I loved the reticle and viewing area. I have always been less than impressed with the battery life and push-button controls, but never displeased enough to sell my sight for a loss. Having the opportunity to sell it back for what I paid is a no-brainer. I've also moved to Alaska, and haven't had a chance to see the extreme temperature swing effects first hand, but if there was ever a place for extreme temperature swings this is it.
