I've had a Mark IV Hunter for a week and cleaned it three times now and get a giggle out of the fantastically easy takedown every time....not an Anderson Cooper giggle, but at least a chagrined chuckle or two. A chuckle because I think of the first time I disassembled a Mark III and had to bring it to a friend to put back together.:cuss: Another chuckle when I think of the entire day that I set aside with a Mark III and a 22/45 just to repeatedly disassemble and reassemble until I could do each smoothly and in under an hour. Chagrined because I can't imagine why Ruger didn't redesign this thing for easier cleaning way before introducing the Mark II, let alone the Mark III.

If they'd done this years ago, there would be no Beretta Neos, maybe no Buckmark, and the Colts and Hi Standards would have been discontinued earlier. Ruger would rule the 22lr pistol autoloader market.

Tremendous finishing quality to the Mark IV, and more accurate than I am. I may switch out the rear sight someday for a target sight, but for now I've been content just to switch the Hi-Viz front to a white dot so that it blends with the rear marker. The trigger is okay for now, but the simple trigger pivot pin, or whatever it is called, is just begging for me to switch to a decent drop-in trigger whenever one is available.

Kudos Ruger.

Well, there are a limited number of engineers/designers at Ruger, and they have been spending a LOT of time on their centerfires. I am simply glad they got their act together on the Mark IV, though I almost never had a real problem with my Mark I. I think you are correct in speculating that many other makers' models would have disappeared if the Mark IV appeared sooner than it has.

Looks like they wised up and ditched that ridiculous loaded chamber indicator. That was smart.

I still won't ever buy another Ruger product, though.

I looked at one at the LGS this week. Definately on my list. I hope the price comes down a bit, though.

200Apples, I'd post one for proof but I figured there were enough pics of the gun available and don't want you to ruin your keyboard/phone drooling.

OCD much? I clean our MKII and 22/45 about every 5000 rounds whether they need it or not :) Its probably why it seems to be such a PITA to do so.

I cleaned my Mark III and 22/45 about every 5th year myself, whether they needed it or not. But the easy takedown of the Mark IV has me treating it like the centerfires; cleaning every time I shoot. Yeah it's a little OCD.

Am I the only person in the world who didn't have any trouble with the Ruger take-down procedure?
No you're not. Took me a few tries to get the hang of it but once I figured out the "tilt gun back 45 degrees and pull trigger" reassembly was a snap. Had someone ask me if I knew how to take a MK II apart told him he needs a deluxe takedown tool then handed him a large paper clip.

Mach, you could fashion up any gun you wanted out of spare metal! :D

Must be a cool feeling to be able to create your own guns.

everyone talks about take down but i never hear about accuracy.
my mark 3 22/45, with vq sear, etc, is the most accurate gun i've ever seen.
it will do a 7/8'' group at 25 yards, using wolf.
can the 4s do that or not?

We took my new stainless Mark IV Target out for the first time yesterday and put 300 rounds though. It seems to be just as accurate as my old Mk III, which was my favorite pistol ever.

Love the easy take down. Can't wait to clean it up today.

Only thing I'm not crazy about is the magazine safety. That's a feature I got rid of on my Mark III when I put in the Mark II style trigger kit from Volquartsen. Anybody know if there's a way to disable that on the Mark IV?

I don't know yet. I don't have a Ransom or other handgun rest. I know that I'm not capable of 7/8's offhand...and doubt anyone else is other than an Olympian with a tricked out gun.

This video addresses removing the mag disconnect, but the video starts with a disassembled Mark IV and mixes reassembly with a Mark II Volquartsen set, so I'm not sure what part of the video is applicable.

i was talking 7/8'' groups rested, of course.
no ransom, just arms on a padded rain barrel.
that is not olympian. that's just competent.
my 22/45 will do 2'' 2 hand free hand n 3'' one hand, unsupported.
but gun accuracy is measured rested.

people claim it gets easier after you do it a few times.
i've field stripped this thing 3 times in the last 18 months n i still hate it.

I didn't exactly have "trouble" with it, but it's the only gun I had to have the manual on the table when cleaning.

I'm glad to hear that you like your new MKIV, beretta professor.

Regarding the takedown/reassembly of the previous MKs vs. the current MKIV, I'm sure it will take quite some time for everyone to accept the MKIV. It's almost as scandalous as when Ruger made a new carbine a few years ago and named it a Scout.

Silly Ruger, won't they ever learn? :D

I like the disassembly/assembly on my Ruger P345 but my .22 is a Neos. Qualified for CCP on one and a year after that I bought one when .45 ammo prices approached $.045 a round. Several friends have Marks but I never warmed up to them. Just posting to say I like Ruger but am glad their problems led to the Neos as well.
