Glad to be part of the group. My first post here. I read a interesting article about 22 long rifle ammo price. Said with Trump being elected, they see the price per round dropping to four cents a piece. Do you all think reloading prices will drop? Especially powder.

In time, but not overnight, and not much more. I don't foresee any more four cent .22 LR. Five cent, yes. We're seeing six cents now. I could be all wrong though. I'm merely guessing.

Welcome to THR

I just bought a 333 count box of Rem .22LR at a Walmart for 5.2 cents per round. I haven't seen .22 at this store in over 4 years.
It seems that the 3 old men and their companions that appeared at that store every Thursday morning at 7:00AM to buy all the .22LR were no longer coming in.
Let us hope that the hoarders and speculators with time to corner the supply might now be allowing those of us with regular day jobs the opportunity to replenish our own supplies.

Just in the nick of time, I was down to my last 800 rounds!

Even so, I can still reload 9mm for just slightly more than the cos of .22LR. I won't be giving that up. I've learned my lesson about being reliant on rimfire ammo.

I went to replenish well actually increase my inventory the other day & there was no Wolf or Tula to be found & prices of the others has went up. I wanted some more WC844 & it is crazy high. I can buy H335 cheaper then surplus. I'm sitting out of the game for a while.

On a good note tho. I went to the range a week ago & had to wade through brass. :) I tried to do my part to help clean up.

Stock prices of both Smith & Wesson and Ruger dropped about 10% the day after the election.

IMHO the "holy grail" - so to speak - of things easing up is having .22LR on the shelf at WalMart.......consistently. I'm still stunned at how long that shortage has gone on.

My LGS has had very strong supplies of all components for a long time. So maybe we'll start to see prices ease?

With the election results I'm hoping to see a good supply of .22LR ammo on the shelves for the first time in 8 years. I still don't know where it all is and please don't say supply bad demand. According to CCI they are producing 4 million rounds A DAY. Add in Remington, Winchester, Federal and the many overseas manufacturers and I'm guessing there are 20 million rounds being produced daily. Where is it all?

4¢ a round would make me happy alright and we can hope.

Welcome to the forum.

I think it is like GAS prices. After it has been high for so long and people pay that price, why lower the price??

$50 a brick seems the new "normal"

Hope I am wrong but people would rather pay 8-10 cents a round for 22lr than the price of centerfire ammo. Not that many shooters reload.

About all anyone can do is speculate. Will it drop to four cents a round? Beats the heck out of me. Over the past several months it has been more and more commonplace to see it on the retail store shelves as well as online shopping outlets. Anyway, the stuff was turning up well before Donald Trump won the election. What does a Trump White House mean to the gun and ammunition buying public? Likely that gun rights will remain in tact. I am good with that. I believe by now everyone looking to have a large stock or supply has done so. With more and more remaining on store shelves the prices should come down but I doubt we will see four cents a round, maybe around five cents but again, I won't speculate.

Additionally we really can't guess a price without knowing the ammunition. I don't think we will see Eley TenX at $40 or $50 a brick (500 rounds) anytime soon. :)

When I can walk up to the counter at the local WW and purchase 100 round box of mini-mags for $6.00 (as much as I want), then I'll celebrate.

Price is $25 for the bricks of junk here. The thing is when some of the CCI stingers show up it's $7 a hundred. I'm not paying $25 for the junk when I can get better for that close in price. I rarely shot 22LR but why not have done around for the kids to have fun.

This election was a big rush for guns also. I had ordered a pistol & the soonest I could get there was election day. It was busy.

I likewise have noticed that the old practice of scooping up every last pc of range brass down to the bare dirt, the second the bullet clears the muzzle is starting to fade. I have recovered 2000+ 9mm & 40 S&W brass in the last month or so and haven't mined all that is there.

Yes, been waiting forever for the relatively cheap 22LR to show up at Walmart. Doesn't last long around here with 3 teenage boys. If there was an investment opportunity to produce the stuff I'd like to be part of it.

I used to scoop every piece I could up after I shot for my job. It's 9mm however there was another guy at the range that was collecting empty boxes so i asked if he reloaded. Since he did I left all the brass for him. To tell the truth I really don't want anymore but I can't help but correct it when it's laying there.

Powder does not add that much per round. What would be nice will be a drop in primer and bullet cost. Powder cost about .0027 to .0050 per grain, and for pistol you use about 3 to 7 grain per load. Primers are around .02 to .03 per bullet, but bullets are around 10c. The bullet price normally dictates the reloading cost.

Think about it. At one point, gas was over $4 a gallon. It "settled" in just under $4 a gallon for a while and then hung in the upper $2s.for another while. Then it dipped under $2 a gallon for a time and it is now in the low $2s. It hadn't moved under $2 for a long time and here it is hanging around the $2 range. I hope ammo/bullets turns out like the gas prices. That means it will bottom out at prices that were pre-obama.

I am curious about the new polymer bullets on the market. I can't imagine the cost being more than the present process of making bullets. If the bullets perform then we may be in for a pleasant surprise a short way down the road even if it is for range use.

I had a lot of .22LR ammo stored up 8 years ago when the shortage started. I bought a lot on sale because like primers theories were starting to inch up. I would love to say I saw it coming but I didn't, I was just being cheep. When I found a sale I bought several bricks, not just one because I wanted to save money.

Now, the problem is, even though I still have a lot of .22 ammo I'm afraid to shoot a lot of it because I still don't know when I can replace it. It's almost as bad as not having the ammo. Almost but if course not as bad lol.

When I realized that it was possible that .22 LR could be scarce and/ or unavailable, I began to buy the stuff when it was available - I was willing to pay the inflated price but not the obnoxious price (I passed that up). Over time, I realized that I had accumulated about 7k rounds; based on my shooting habits, that is about five lifetimes for me. I stopped buying about two years ago; my supply is now comfortable (way past comfortable is more like it) - I now see it on the retail shelves and that is good. There are probably lots of shooters like me who's appetite is way past satisfied and are out of the market (at least for a while). I think that the supply will go up and the price will come down but I do not think that the "good ole days" of super cheap .22 will return. Kind of like gasoline, we now think that a $1.95 per gallon is a bargain. Good shooting.

My "barometer" for prices is the price relative to the cheapest 9mm ammo. Back in the "good old days" circa 2005 you could get 9mm Aluminum Blazer for about $0.08 per round (Academy "everyday low price" $3.86/50) and bulk .22lr ammo was easy to find at $0.02 per round. Been seeing adds for Tula 9mm at $160/1000 so by this barometer $0.04 per round .22lr bulk pack could happen in the near future.

Before I retired I had about 90K of bullets of various calibers socked away for my retirement which started not quite 4 years ago. I was planning to buy powder and primers as needed in "max hazmat" quantities as time went by, but since Sandy Hook both have been scarce so I was starting to run low. Availability started to improve this summer so I took inventory and ordered all the powder and primers I'd need for what remains of my bullet supply. Powder wasn't bad, but I had to switch brands, primers were a bigger problem as I had to buy "better" brands than I normally use (Wolf/Tula) which cost more.

If I'd waited I might have saved some money (mostly on the primers if Wolf/Tula returned) or been able to get my prefered Unique powder, but then had the election turned out differently I could have ended up with ~3 years worth of bullets and no powder or primers to load them without paying panic type prices. Fortunately we could afford it financially and my wife backed the idea. So I should be in good shape the next 3+ years. If my health stays good and I can keep shooting I'll replace what I shoot before the next election, especially if prices retreat.

This my sound like a lot, but when you average shooting ~1500 rounds a month it goes fast! It sure is nice to open up a dust covered box of 500 and seeing a $25 price tag on it :)

In my experience, once prices go high they never come back to where they were. Once they know you will pay the higher price, why should they lower it? Election or no election. The system really is rigged. Not just elections but most everything that concerns the common working person is rigged to enrich the elites. We are only here to be strip mined by those people. They ruin our food system to make people sick and keep them on meds. Am I the only person fed up with all the lies we have been forced to accept? Freedom is just an illusion. Oh, I got off subject. I apologize.

Just look at the price for any centerfire ammo today. Look at the price of primers, bullets and powder today. It like anything else is up.

For those that do not reload what is a fun day at the range. Say they shoot 45 acp the cheapest is around ..27-28 cents a round plus shipping for Blazer BRASS. Steel ammo is a few cents cheaper.

So go to the range and shoot only 100 rounds it costs ya $30 for just the ammo let alone all the other extras, That is an expensive outing for a lot of people. Yes 9mm is cheaper

Saw it happen at our range, so lots went to plinking 22 lr, The demand for 22 lr then goes up. The ammo makers know this so they keep the 22 ammo priced higher than it was. I do not see it going down by much

All those tacticool 22 rifles that CDNN trays to blow out every week, they can't sell the damn things, so they are cheap cheap.

What country do you live in? We've discussed gas coming down to levels not seen in a long time. We have ARs that can be purchased for <$500 when not too ong ago they were $1500+. All the calibers of ammo are coming back to near pre-panic prices. The housing bubble burst. I can go on but I won't waste the bandwidth.

Our food is better and healthier than it's ever been. Our average lifetime has grown by many years. We do have meds but they help maintain our health where previously we died. We have more comforts and gadgets than ever with more on the way. I don't know where you live but we live pretty well when you look at our history. Maybe you don't live in the USA so I may be off base but I don't know what you expect if you do live here. More welfare? Free ammo? What?

Once they know you will pay the higher price, why should they lower it?

So you'll buy from them instead of their competitor, that's why. And that's how it works. It's not rocket surgery or some great consipiracy. It's simple supply and demand.

I believe prices will come down a bit on powder, but it'll take a while.

I'm anticipating that .22 will come down some as well. If it does, we may see a lot of .22 being sold cheaply by people that were buying it in the hopes of making huge profits if the last election had gone differently.
