well you tried everything but a real steel 30 rd mag. the guy that bought it I bet knew it would run with the right mag lol. have you talked with him after he bought it? the chines figures I am talking about are the ones in your original post not any in the pics. I guess you copy and pasted them

It's all good :) . I haven't heard anything from him since I sold it good or bad and I haven't seen it back up for sale here on the local gun Grapevine so I'm assuming that he got it fixed or something,, idk. as they say, no news is good news. Ima big SKS Junkie & every SKS I've had has been dead nuts reliable. However, with this one I was just glad to see it go because I was tired of screwing with it. IMO it was just a cheap production rifle made for the Western Market and setup to use AK mags as a sales gimmick. They have nothing to do with the type D or type 63 which were actual military rifles. So, I sold it and bought another military issue SKS. like all the others it's dead nuts reliablle with the factory 10 round box magazine and I like it.

the rifle you show in your pic with the thumbhole stock has the same info on the receiver as mine which was made at the factory to use AK steel issue mags. on mine you could not put the crappy duckbill mag in it. I wonder if someone messed up that rifle before you got it. I also replaced the 10 rd mag in my other sks with a 20 rd chi com mag which has the hinge and is the same as the the 10 rd mag only 20 rds. it never jammed. what I wanna know is how did you post those Chinese symbols? love to know

. Hey where did you ever find a 20 round fixed with a hinge? Didn't know anyone made one. Would love to find one and save myself the trouble of screwing with those ****ty steel 30 rounders or the ideal Tapco 20. Have one of each and the steel ****ty one has had so much filing and dremeling I'm ready to run a wire thru it and turn it into a nighttime reading lamp. I'm think the other guys are right about sticking with the fixed box mags and stripper clips.

There's an old Chinese magazine that was imported in varying quantities from the late 1980's.. A metal, fixed 20 rounder meant to be used in place of the original fixed 10 rounder. Looked a little rough, but they all worked .I prefer the 10 rounder original simply because when unloading, the 20 rounder footplate didn't drop open as wide as the original... They reloaded fine though, and you could shoot them from a low prone easier than the Tapco duckbill types since they were less obtrusive.

They may be harder to come by these days,as Chinese Firearms related imports are more erratic than they used to be. I used to see Keng's Firearms Specialties from Georgia bring in a lot of Norinco and Polytech stuff(AK,SKS,Type 59 Makarov and other guns ,parts and accessories).

actually he was referring to the picture of my SKS - M with the thumbhole stock and the factory steel AK mag. they were actually 20 round magazines that were limited to 10 Rounds with a really tall skirt on the follower. All you had to do to restore them to their 20 round capacity was to use a Dremel and trim the skirt off the follower. a lot of guys actually trimmed the skirt on the followers so they could load 19 rounds instead of 20 to add a little stability to follower.

I got that in the 80's the heyday of cheap sks's and the ammo. it has a big chi com star on it. very reliable. what I like is when using a stripper clip the first ten rounds go in a lot easier then a ten rd mag. so I usually just put 10 in the 20 rd mag. I do not think you can find them now

The Tapco 20 rounders work well in my Chinese model. I sanded out a small amount of the wood in the magazine well, not much really, and it fits fine and works perfectly.

I also acquired one of the Chinese 20 round hinged metal "star" magazines in a package purchase, but haven't tried it yet.

Another debate of course is what is the quality of the commercial pinned barrel models vs. the screw in models. No doubt the screw types are better, but I've shot quite a bit through my pinned version with no ill effects. I got this spike bayonet version for $89 new at the time, and later purchased a new blade version for my son for $10 more. He showed little interest in it, so I never even got to the stage of de-cosmolining it. After the PIA of degreasing mine, I didn't want to do it again, so sold it as is to a fellow officer. In retrospect, I probably should have kept that one instead. Not sure if it was pinned or screwed. Is there a difference in value between the spike versions or blade versions, all other things being equal?

some people try and charge more if it has a blade instead of a spike bayonet butt I would have to say no because it more or less depends on what model it is and when it was made more than anything.

I've had both Spike and blade bayonets but I don't have a preference one way or the other because I never put much emphasis on them to begin with. however, I do have an affinity for the Swiss bayonets & the Swiss rifles that go with them.

almost all rifles especially the mosin shoot better or worse and to different POI with the bayonet on or off. in fact the mosins always shot better with the bayonet extended

Moistan nagits were sighted in at the factory with the bayo on.

You are correct, and that may be true but if you allow for a little Kentucky windage, or as John Wayne put it "windage and elevation ma'am, windage and elevation" correcting for it is a simple adjustment.

Wahoo, just got home with another 100 rds. of Wolf x39 to top of my ammo can for my SKS. I usually don't see too much Wolf around here, it's mostly Tula & zinc coated MFC
