I have done the same thing and have come to prefer a braided leather sling. It is functional and beautiful. I found one trimmed with rattlesnake skin, but the leather is so thick that it's only good to look at, not so good for carrying. My point here is that only through trial and error will you discover what works for you. I have several slings hanging in my gun cabinet that never get used. Those would be the error part of the trial and erfor.Frankly, I've found that most mass produced slings are like anything else mass produced, a study in compromise. A few years back I decided that I would have all of my future slings custom made. Find a good leather smith, and work with him/her to get exactly what you want.
