2017 - New Colt Cobra

'Cause everybody knows that Colt revolvers are named after snakes.
Detective Special doesn't resonate with the Internet Generation and is not reflected in the squad room.

I wonder why they didn't bring back the hammer shroud for a pocketable revolver.

And the MSRP is?

The ad says "steel frame" which makes it a DS. Of course, if they want to call it a "Cobra" no argument here. I cannot imagine too many LEOs going back to a revolver.

I want one. How many thousands is this going to cost?

Quick- Let's get 10 pages of follow-up saying it shoulda been a .357 Magnum & Smith's new 66 is a better gun....

Yep, mass production and low quality. Flat front sights with no texture to reduce glare, trigger edges so sharp a short range session produced pain and soreness. I owned several of their last generation of DA revolvers, which were a real reduction in quality over earlier generations of Colts. The 3" stainless DS felt like a toy in your hand.

I like the looks of it. Is that a 6 shot? Anyone care to guess frame size?

Well good, it's about time. I haven't seen anything about it, is their some trigger lock thing included as well? I don't think that would turn me off to it, but it would be in my mind, a detractor. The .38 aspect, not a problem, as far as I see it.

I'll be looking forward to seeing one in the flesh. Wonder how it compares to the new Kimber K6? Cost on that one is around $900.

What does an original specimen of the cobra go for these days? I have a guy wanting to trade me at about $900.

Are we seeing a renaissance of revolvers? A GP100 in 44 Special and now this???

For my dos centavos, this is closer to the DS since it has a steel frame. Not many of the original Cobras had a shrouded ejector.

I paid $450 for my nickel plated Cobra a couple of months ago. It was "good" condition- a couple of tiny dings. $900 seems a bit high unless it is mint. Just my opinion.

If it's an all steel "Magnum Carry", and reasonably priced, I'd be all over it.

Even a six shot +P airweight Cobra.. again reasonably priced.

Trouble is, Colt ain't known for being 'reasonable' on prices.

I guess the "Colt will never produce a DA revolver again" experts on this board will be disappointed.

Too bad Colt missed 10-15 years of the mass shall issue carry gun market. Even to new shooters, the Colt name means something.

Now its time for the King Cobra and Anaconda to make a return. Both of those guns were made with modern techniques and retailed similarly to S&W and Ruger products.

It just ain't the same.

No, it isn't. That Cobra in your post is iconic.

The gun in the picture in the first post looks like a cross between a Charter Arms and a Ruger... with looks only a mother could love.

Inquiring minds would like to know if Colt has plans for a short-barreled .44 Special!

People have been begging Colt for a new DA revolver, and before anybody even gets one in hand we're getting complaints about "It ain't what they used to was!"

Some of us have been warning for quite some time that when Colt did bring out the new DA, it could NOT be what the older guns were.
Give it a chance.
This is a long-requested & long-awaited major step for Colt.

I've said the same thing myself numerous times and it's interesting to see just how quickly it's comes true off of something as simple as a single page magazine add.

I look forward to hearing more about this gun as SHOT. Judging by the pictures it has the basic Colt DNA, but doesn't seem to share much with the original Cobra. It appears to be an almost exact copy of the Magnum Carry.

I'm pretty excited myself. Colt has been making great 1911's for the past fees years and their MSRPs have been steadily dropping as of late to be pretty much exactly in line with their competition. I'd expect to see this one in the $600-$700 range which would put it in line with comparible Smiths and Rugers.

So, you get a 6 shot, all steel, no stupid lock snubnose revolver, that is chambered for .38 Spl. +P and not for .357 Magnum - those exact specifications I keep see here all the time and somehow it turns out that "it's not what we asked for!".

P.S. The only thing I don't like for now is the barrel profile, but everything else looks OK to me.
