Looking at this forum for a long time now it seems that it's about 99% cap and ball revolvers, with a few odd threads on muzzleloading rifles now and again. I get to wondering if any of you pards in this territory got any one shooter pistols? I'll start with mine!

A quality single shot flinter is on my wish list. All I have now are cheap percussions I got in the 1970's when I was a kid. CVA Colonial, CVA Philadelphia Deringer, Classic New Orleans Ace, and not singles but 2 Classic Snake Eyes.

I have one its a traditions Kentucky pistol in 50c percussion I finished from a kit last year! and I now want the flintlock version in 45c to go with my traditions 45c Kentucky flintlock rifle I finished from a kit! plus at Dixie gun works I want this

I've got a .54 cal. Lyman Great Plains that is outstanding.Took a 100 lb. doe with it several years ago. Uphill shot about 20 yards. Passed clean through both lungs and broke the shoulder down on the far side. 60 grains of FFG and patched ball.

Custom muzzleloaders can get pretty pricey vs. kit guns. There are a lot of talented builders out there..and they are normally backed up a long time. My little .40 was built by Chuck Hinkle in Duncanville Texas. The last rifle he did for me took well over a year.....but his work is outstanding.

I used to have several BP revolvers and rifles,,,
I even have the Remington revolving carbine on my wall.

But I gave up on BP as I hated the necessity of immediate cleaning,,,
It made going to the range an onerous task instead of a pleasant outing.

But, if I were ever to get anything that uses BP,,,
It would be a pair of percussion pistols.

They are much easier/faster to clean than those danged revolvers,,,
And I've always wanted a cased pair to use as dueling pistols.

Maybe this spring.

So I have spent an hour on-line looking at what's available.

Holy Smoke!

I can't believe the prices they are asking for them,,,
The cheapest I found was a kit at Cabela's for $199.00.

Most of the sites I looked at had prices starting at $300.00 for a plain-Jane gun,,,
Something with a little class to it easily hit the $450 to $550 range.

Well, so much for that idea,,,
They might be worth the money,,,
But I'm not going to pay those prices.

I'll stick with my Modern Dueling Pistol Set.

They are worth it. You are right about them being much easier and faster to clean than the revolvers. They are also much less troublesome in my experience, no cap jams etc. My Pedersoli pistol has had perhaps two misfires in at least 200 rounds down range. These were both in the first 10 shots as I was new to them and didn't realize the need to clear the nipple first before shooting to dry any oils.

I think if you were to give them a chance you'd change your mind. The Lyman Great Plains pistol gets good reviews and if you hunt for one and find it on sale, it's a keeper for sure. They are very fun and while I know I'm in the minority on this one, I prefer them to shooting cap and ball revolvers.

My unfired Pedersoli Harley Davidson 75th anniversary .44 cal percussion pistol with case and accessories. If it were a flintlock I probably would've shot it by now

.36 caliber. Load is .350 RB, .010 patch, 12 grains Swiss #1 powder.
