I hate Talon Grips

I have only used their grip tape version that is made for each pistol. Had em on a Glock 27 and an XDs. Always worked fine for me but I may not shoot as much as you.

I think you did not install the Talon Grip properly. After degreasing with alcohol & pressing it on, you have to use a hair dryer to heat the material. I spoke to a Talon Rep about this. Mine have stayed on my Glocks for the past five years; absolutely no peeling. My guns are stored where temps range from 51 to 100 degrees.

I have no issues with them at all they work for me and stay on

Is this grip one of those "slip on" rubber sleeve things?

It's grip tape.

I don't use them. I don't like the concept of sticking stuff to my guns.

I went from Talons to Tractiongrips some time ago and much prefer them. They're less money, a bit thinner, and seem to adhere better. (at least to me)

We had them on a few of the range guns when I worked at the local indoor range. I have never been a fan of adhesive style grips. They prevented me from being able to clean the frames in the ultrasonic cleaner because they would peel off afterward. They didn't hold up well over time on the rental guns so I looked at them as disposable grip enhancers and nothing more. FWIW I don't have any of their products on my pistols.

So have you contacted Talon for a diagnosis/advice?
Personally I have had no issues with their grips on (5?) of my guns.

The Talon grips I have on my 9mm PPQ (M1) work very well with one minor exception. The top right front corner of the tape is narrow and a little of it started to peel back. I cut a tiny bit of the tip off and it has been fine since. I think it did that because that point is on the outside of my IWB holster and rubbed on my clothing when carried.

The pistol has been carried many hours and has >1000 rounds through it and the tape has been on for almost 2 years. Although the tape provides a good purchase on the pistol, I wish I didn't have to cut that tip off.

I've only used Talon (stick-em) 'grips' on two Walther PPS M1 pistols.

Used the option for the Talon rubber stickers rather than the traction/sandpaper option because they were to be used as pocket pistols. Having them go in and out of a pocket they're going to hang up some on the draw with the traction/sandpaper/skateboard tape ones and gradually they'll tear up your pants pocket.

Only negative I've had with them period is that a small corner on the upper part of the left side (the side that's against my body as a right handed shooter and that's continually getting dragged) came loose. I bought one of those 3 packs of Lock-title super glue and used one tube to glue that tiny bit of corner back in place awhile back. It's stayed in place and I've had no other issues. The Talon grips feel better on the M1 PPS simply because the side on those is somewhat slick.

For two of the other polymer pistols that I've put stick-em grips on I've used regular old skateboard tape, and then some paper, a pencil and a hobby exacto knife to make and cut a template. Those are belt pistols though, so for those it makes sense to be able to have more traction.

For the few others I've just bought them with the grip stippled, had it done or kept it stock.

I bought a large roll of 3M tread tape a few years back, and now have a lifetime supply of 'grip tape.'

Bit peels off, it's replaced in five minutes for essentially zero cost. Plus, I get to put on the amount I want, in the places I want; using it between existing lines of texturing can add grip with no width.

Have had Talons on my Shield for 5 years. They are just now starting to come loose along the back strap. The gun has been carried and shot a lot and I feel 5 years is a reasonable life span. I ordered a second set when they had their Christmas sale but haven't installed yet

I have had more luck with slip on grip sleeves. The only problem I have with those is they often add too much thickness to the grip.

You do have to get the stuff really hot & press on it really hard. Re: grip sleeves, I put the Hogue Handall on my HKUSP & it doesn't add much thickness to the grip; probably because you really have to pull it hard & it stretches & thins out during installation.

I've never used the Talon product more than just fondling, so I won't speak to it.

I do have some experience repurposing other materials for the same goal however.
For your purpose, a 1.5-2" section of bicycle innertube slipped over the grip should work wonders. It'll stay put on a double stack frame very well and gives a good purchase.

I use a bike inner tube on my Glock. Works great. You can get used bike inner tubes for free at any bicycle shop. Cheap, effective, feels great in my hand. The only issue is getting the inner tube over the magwell, it takes some time, but the results are great.

I wiped my Glock 43 with denatured alcohol, and applied the Talons, no problem.

I second the motion for tread tape.

So am late to this thread but have a question. After you put them on do you have to take them off to get the back strap off to break the gun down for cleaning? Also do they come with grip stuff for the magazine? Cant tell from adds.

The Talon "grips" I have rap around the back of the grip and do cover the back strap as one piece. So yes, you would need to remove the grip to get to the back strap.

Also do they come with grip stuff for the magazine?

I have not heard of using grip material on magazines, and have not seen it available. Personally, I would not have any use for that since I don't see a need to have that firm of a grip on a replacement mag, nor on a mag being ejected.

Had the same issue with Talon rubber grips.....about 6 mos. and they started to come off my glock....tried both their rubber and abrasive....way too expensive....went to home depot, bought black non-skid and used the old Talon for a template and made my own....much better.
