After a good 7-year run with my trusty Aker B21, I am considering replacing her. I've looked at pretty much every gunleather company I can think of, and have narrowed my choices down to Hank's Kydex Reinforced Concealed Carry Belt and the Bigfoot Belts 14 oz Leather Gun Belt. Does anyone own both? Or have used both? Got any insight that you would care to share?

Also, I'm open to other suggestions, but I'll throw out a few things that are relevant to my belt selection process:
1. I'm looking for a medium to dark brown. My B21 is more of a tan or light brown, and that's fine for casual wear, but I want medium or dark brown to go with work clothes. As for work clothes, see #2, below.
2. I wear suits & dress clothes 5 days per week. That rules out tactical nylon and black basketweave for me. It also rules out 1.75" belts. Whatever I select has to pass as a dress belt.
3. I'm aware of The Beltman. I'm sure that Beltman belts are fine pieces of leatherwork. However, they don't offer them in the color I want.
4. I'm aware of the Bigfoot steel core belt. I'm sure it's a fine piece of leatherwork, but I don't need any more hassle getting through metal detectors than I already have. If, by any chance, you have one of these belts and have some knowledge as to whether it sets off metal detectors, I'd love to know about it.
5. My EDC is a Glock 19 on one side and an extra mag on the other.

I like my 5.11 stiffened 1.5" leather belt. It's black, but they may come in other colors. Definitely dressy enough for a suit. Even has a hidden pocket for a spare handcuff key, and we all know how handy one of those can be.

As always, Lenwood Leather's Hybrid. I bought and returned a half dozen before finding them. Midway carries their line.

Heh...I'm on the market for a 1.5 inch dark brown dress belt as well...

I have a SB3 but would have preferred it be somewhat stiffer, especially if carrying spare mags. It's held up OK, but not great, and it was pretty pricy. I'm considering the Hanks Extreme myself as I found it for 50 bucks and reviews are glowing, but the model with the Kydex insert you are considering also seems very attractive because holster wobble drives me OCD crazy.

I don't own either, but looking at their pictures in your links, both seem borderline for "dress belts". Both look a bit more like work belts for use with jeans rather than with suits.

Wouldn't any belt with a metal buckle set off a metal detector. That's been my experience. That's why you take off your belt when you go through the TSA check points at airports and why The Wilderness Tactical has their nylon ring Frequent Flyer belt. I know you don't want a nylon belt, just using it as an example for the belt buckle.

My EDC is a Glock 19 on one side and an extra mag on the other.
With such a light gun, do you need a reinforced belt? A regular double layered gun belt should provide plenty of support for something as light as G19.

For a dressier option, have you looked at Mitch Rosen ( http://mitchrosen.com/products/belts/ ) or 5 Shot Leather ( http://www.5shotleather.com/belts.htm ).

Yeah, they're kind of "barely dress belts," but this belt will also have to do double duty on weekends, with jeans or khakis. I haven't seen much in "dress gun belts" that: (1) really looked dressy; and (b) convinced me that they're sturdy enough for EDC use.

Not necessarily. I go through metal detectors at our county courthouse. Covering the metal buckle with my hand often (but not always) prevents the metal detector from going off.

Because I like having a really solid belt for my gun? Historically, I went from "hanging a 1911 on a cheap Wal-Mart belt" to "hanging a 1911 on an Aker B21." So I've actually never tried a regular, double-layered (non-reinforced) gunbelt. You may be absolutely right, but I know that a reinforced belt will be enough for my EDC rig.

Yeah, those are definitely worth a look. Thanks.

Welp, I finally made a decision and ordered a Beltman belt. Once it comes in, I'll report back on quality. With that said, I'll say this for the folks at Beltman: They were very responsive to emails. I emailed them with some questions, and they responded very quickly, within 24 hours. Then they followed up to make sure that I'd gotten the response when they didn't hear back from me (I'd missed the email in my inbox). I had a few more questions, and they were really great about answering them. If the belt quality is everything it's reputed to be, I'll likely go back to them when it's time for a new belt in black.

I'm on my 4th year with an AG Custom and have been very happy with it. Turn around was not out of line either. There are a variety of colors and thread. They also have a "quick ship" line.
