Marlin's website is down pending renewal or deletion. Do I have the wrong site? Can anyone shed some light on this. My search of THR is not giving me an answer.

Their website was up for renewal on Jan. 5th 2017. They did not renew it and so are without a website at present. That's some amateur stuff right there.

They paid for twenty years of registration back in 1997. Somehow, expiration slipped through the cracks.

There was a time when that would have been an expensive mistake. But, today it's harder to buy and hold the domain name for ransom.

This is what I got just this moment...http://marlinfirearms.com/

That is not Marlin's website. Note in the upper right hand corner that it says that it is pending renewal or deletion. Renewal was due 1/05/2017

If someone has seen Merlin's website please post a link.

Meanwhile I've printed out pics of the old website and am posting them on telephone polls in my neighborhood. Maybe someone's seen it or can catch it and call me with the old website or a new one. Maybe I can alert facebook people to help in the search?

Same as tipoc. Mind you, 'Whois' does show the domain name as expired on 2017-01-05. I forget how long the 'grace' period is.
"...upper right hand corner..." Nothing there now.
Merlin's website is alive and well. Merlin.com is owned by Merlin Interactive, Miami. snicker.

Nope it's still there, upper right hand corner. Right hand that's the one across from the left hand. Reads; "marlinfirearms.com expired on 01/05/2017 and is pending renewal or deletion."

Some guy name Lars renewed it for a year this morning. After an "Oh crap" moment, he probably paid out of his pocket.

After the registration is updated at the .com level, it has to propagate across the world of DNS servers. So, some people may see the site if their DNS servers have the update while others may not. After a few hours, to a day or so all will be right with the world.

The propagation is based on the TTL set by DNS. Resolvers will cache the results for the TTL period before they will check for an update. Like calling the guy that lives near the draw bridge. You know he checks once an hour on the hour if the bridge is up or down and you called him on the half hour. You get an update that's a half hour off. The bridge could be up but he won't check for another half hour. Most sites are set anywhere from 1/2 to four hours. But you set it as low as about 5 minutes and as long as a few days.

It could be that Marlin (Remington) doesn't handle their own web site. They don't concern themselves with domain registration. The company chosen just forgot to pay or process the renewal. Happens more than you think. No pay, no website.
