The Colt Cobra, "new one", anyone see one yet?

I owned a Colt DS back in 1974, that was taken in a robbery. I always wanted to replace it, and never did. Mainly the prices on them went crazy after they stopped making them.
So this new Cobra, I hear and read, it's a DS in brushed Stainless. What is the inside scoop? If any of you fellas saw or shot one, I sure would like to know.
I thought of polishing out the stainless to get it to look like my Nickel plated model that was taken, and perhaps put a set of Altamont grips on it. Thus duplicating a newer version of my first CCW gun.
It says it comes with Tritium front sight, thought it was fiber optic, but I guess it's both. I like the Colts because they were at the time the best looking 6 shooter around, and still are one of the nicest looking.
I really wish they remade the Python, "maybe" if this one sells they will. I predicted this "revolver" marketing idea had to occur, as there is just so much you can do with a 9mm semi auto, before it gets too silly. We reached that point now. All the RMR's lasers etc have been done, and unless they throw a heat seeking rocket on the rail, it's now a "Slide Decorating", and "strippeling", race.Who can make the most interesting holes and remove metal, and plastic in the most creative ways.

MSRP is $699, so give it a month and figure slickguns should have it for 5-6 hundred. They have to stay competitive, it is after a 38 caliber Pistol, even though to many of us it is much more. I just hope they do a 357 version or a Python, or diamondback, soon.
 
Yes I prefer to have the option of both rounds also.Maybe a Model 60 in 38 & 357, surprising they didn't do that to begin with.
 
The original Python is dead & Colt would be foolish to name a new DA Python.
It would cause even more confusion than this new Cobra name has, the Old Fart Club would tear it to bits, and the younger market wouldn't know the difference.

Even if the new Cobra is more related to the DS than its old namesake, I think it was a good name choice. Colt needed something catchy out of the gate.

Outside of expanding the Cobra snubby line, the next logical choice is to use the basic pattern of this gun to resurrect the Diamondback line in a service size revolver. I don't think anyone will be offended. Especially if the trigger is as good as Colt is claiming.

However, I agree with DPris; don't cross the cult of St. Python.

You do realize that all roads lead to the Python being re-released right? Especially with the whole Rick Grimes thing. It makes sense they don't fire right out the gate with one but it won't make sense if they do not re-release one of the most iconic revolvers of all time. Especially if they figure out how to make the whole Royal Blue thing work again...

I believe all roads lead to Colt releasing a new medium framed .357 revolver, not necessarily a new Python.

Folks have way too much ego invested in the legend of the classic Python to make any attempts at resurrecting the name viable. Any attempt to re-introduce a new gun with the Python name would be met with endless cries about how it doesn't compare to the classic and is therefore unworthy of the name or just plain junk. Colt would be smart to leave the Python legacy alone and either find a new snake to name their new medium framed .357 after or resurrect a name that few will likely care about like the King Cobra.

There is no road whatever leading to a re-release of the original Python with its original action, and it'd be a mistake to name any new DA revolver "Python."

There'll be a new mid-frame if the new Cobra sells well, but the true Python will never come back.

I don't care what they call them as long as they aren't junk with crap triggers. I have been disappointed with S&W for a long time now and so have others. I think the market is ripe for a quality revolver at a fair price.

It's good to see Colt turn around and decide to start courting regular people instead of justify military. It's nice to see Colt handguns in gun stores after Decades of absence.
 
Purchased a colt detective special in early 70's in 38 special. Got rid of this gun in mid 90's, wish i never had. It had colt quality and the gun was still tight after many sessions with plus p ammo. Truly a colt classic.
 
Since we are now on a Colt wish list, I would like to see a .38 Special +P capable 4 inch barrel with a steel frame like a 4 or 5 inch New Cobra. That would be an easy extension of the model they are now introducing. .38 Special ammunition has come a long way from the round nose 158 grain of yore. I do not need another heavy revolver (my Redhawk fills that need) but a 4 or 5 inch Model 10 or Official Police would serve my needs around the farm and elsewhere.
 
Hope the new Cobra is a seller.

I'd love for a new "King" to come back to town. :)

I think with the new Ruger, S&W and now Colt we are seeing "revolverival" if you will. I'd love to see more service sized duty guns released, especially from Colt.
 
I could see Colt making a new revolver and calling it a Python. Of course it wouldn't be the same as the classic Python except maybe in external appearance. They Python is dang near legendary and capitalizing on the name and reputation of the Python makes sense from a marketing point of view
 
It'd be crucified by those who know the original Python & the name wouldn't mean a damn thing to those who don't. :)

You're absolutely correct! If Colt is thinking about bringing out a new .357 then they should think of a new name to go with it. Leave the Python name to history and make a fresh start with this revolver.

Dream on. They'd be fools to give up the name recognition of the Python. Those who would cry that Colt is defiling the old Python will be outnumbered by a few orders of magnitude by those who will want a "Walking Dead" gun that doesn't cost $4K and up.
 
Enh, call it the Python 2, call it the mamba or the Delta elite 3, call it snuffy the wonder-gun, I don't care, just make it and make it good.

I'd even settle for that pietta clone they were talking about a couple years ago if it was quality.
 
My wish list is simple. I want a MK V action with a Python barrel screwed on it. They can call it a Python II or King Cobra Elite...I don't care as long as the price is under a grand. I will gladly take a 2", 4", 6", and 8" model in blue, matte stainless, and high polished stainless.
