.44 Special GP

What's wrong with options? A lot of folks would prefer a "range" gun in .44 Spl., some people who prefer one for "carry", and some would like both. :)
But a "range" gun would not have a logical reason to be limited to 5 shots. Range guns are likely to be 44 Magnums.

I absolutely agree that having options increases sales and helps make everyone happy.

I may not have been clear, but I do not presently reload .44 Special, only .44 mag, so it would be one more type of brass to deal with, and if I were serious enough, probably another toolhead/die set/powder measure to buy because I hate having to re-setup dies on my Dillon.
I am using a single set of dies for 44 Special and 44 Magnum, because I have the spacer rings from Redding and have been trimming brass so that the trim length difference between Special and Magnum equals the thickness of the spacers. The die is setup for 44 Special and then spaced up for 44 Magnum.

The difference in 5 or 6 is no big deal to me in a range gun. I like my 6 shot .44 Mag for shooting at the range, but I also like my 5 shot .44 Spl for shooting at the range. I like my 6 shot .32 Long for the range, I like my 5 shot .32 auto for the range.......... I like... well, lot's of things.

I would love a 4.0(4.2)" 5 shot .44 Spl for whatever I choose to do with it. I would prefer the 3" for a dedicated carry gun, but wouldn't be carrying it much (And already have that covered), so will likely go for the longer barrel when it comes out. :)

This makes no sense. Are there some secret parameters for what constitutes a "range gun"? What does the capacity or chambering have to do with it???

It is a darn shame that they still put the bill board on the side of the barrel. The marking on the underside of the dust cover on the 1911 is not near as distracting.
Ruger has been using the "warning label" since 1978 and folks are still complaining about it.

I think we are confusing the meaning of range gun and target gun, even "fun gun". Of course we shoot our guns conceived as "carry guns", but they are not what one would design for only shooting paper.

If the interest for Ruger's GP-100 in 44 spl fizzles out and I have one... it may be worth a lot more than I payed for it someday ;)

joneb,

Hahaha... I *think* I see what you did, there...

Naturally, if the interest in this gun fizzles and more of them continue to be produced, then, your gun will be worth less than what you paid. However! your scenario is IMPOSSIBRU! due to the fact that the .44 Special will always be The Most Special Special of All Time, see.

Now, if you'd be kind enough to disregard my silly post, then, all will be well. :D

I made a good buy on a S&W 696 ND soooo I'm feelin lucky.

If you have a nice 696 no dash (and I do) you should feel very lucky. I have never found a better carry snub.

I believe the Ruger GP .44 Spl. will be a truly great sidearm for just about any use as long as people don't insist on trying to make a 44 Magnum out of it (and you know some idiots will - and then send it back to Ruger and whine about it)

A picture of a group is much more helpful when info about how it was shot is included. Distance, rested/unsupported, ammo used, DA/SA, etc. Without that, no one can make any judgements about what your GP100 says about it's accuracy.

25yds seated with a balled up jacket used as a rest. Single action.

There are reports on ruger forum that some guns will chamber 44 Magnum ammo. Has anyone seen this yet?
