What Is The Most Accurate, Durable And Well Made 22LR For Around $300?

I'm not saying it's flat-out impossible to get a good-to-excellent condition JM Marlin 39a for $280.00 these days, but it's gonna be close to it. Looking at GunBroker, there were a couple of examples severly underpriced, but the vast majority were at or over $500.00. Which would tend to make me think that the less expensive offerings were not even good-to-excellent in the seller's mind. Now if I remember correctly, Remington couldn't give the Remlin 39's away & has "revised" their production schedule. Perhaps that period has passed, but I haven't heard that the Remlin 39a is tearing up the .22 rimfire market lately either.

Why take a chance, get a CZ.

Accuracy with any .22 depends on the ammo that particular rifle shoots best. What you think 'long distance' is matters too. The NRA says it's 100 yards. CMP Rimfire Sporter says 50. Then there are Rimfire Tactical Matches that shoot at a 6" steel plate at 200 yards.
You can have a Savage that includes the scope(they're not using low end scopes any more) for an MSRP of $311 for a Mk II FVXP. Heavy barreled and Accu-Triggered. You'd still have to try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo it shoots best though.
 
I have 2 10-22 rifles, a takedown with irons and a carbine with a folding stock and a 3x9x32 on it. If I can't do it with either of those then out comes something centerfire.

10/22s should come in easy around 100(from what I've seen 90-125, 4 or 5 in the last couple years)

Seriously? Around here, Marlin 39a pre safety models are scarce as hen's teeth and apt to be $500 - $750 in like new condition. I haven't shopped for 10/22s lately, but $100 or under is unlikely in my neck of the woods. If you can link to Marlins under $300 or 10/22s under $125, I'd appreciate it as am always looking for good .22 rimfires.
 
My savage mark II FV(heavy barrel) is remarkable accurate and only cost me $189

I would be happy to find a 455 CZ for $300. I don't have a wholesale distributor that wants less than $335 and that was not in stock. I have had a couple of 452 CZ's and they are really nice, but I have had better shooters. The very best that I have owned was a Winchester/Browning 52B Sporter. I sold it for $750 years ago.

The Ruger Americans are decent but out of the 3 that I have owned none had as good a trigger as I like. Maybe I am too picky but all had some creep.

A Ruger with a BX trigger or a Savage MKII would be my pick in your price range, but that doesn't count glass.

CZ makes some great .22 rifles. Their support is great as well. "CZ is the one for me!"

Zastava CZ99
Mags will need some tuning, stock will need to be cleaned and oiled. I threw a rear peep sight on mine and squared the front sight. It WILL shoot right with my CZ452.
I paid $179 on sale couple years ago
 
I have owned Savages, Marlins, and Ruger's but never a CZ. But I have shot one and it was a tack driver! We set Dimes up at 50 yds and got bored from shooting them, literally. Moved out to a hundred and That little 455 American would shoot a nut out of a squirrels mouth at a 100 all day. Really a tack driver and I was surprised to say the least. Straightest shooting 22 I ever shot.

The model designation of the Zastava CZ99 is a bit misleading. The gun has nothing to do with the Czech CZ company. They are well built guns, but do not have the finish and attention to detail that the true CZ's do. Over on Rimfire Central accuracy has been reported to be all over the map. Yes, you may get a good one, but the next S/N may be a spray-n-pray.

Yours are better then mine.....till I dumped a ton of money into my 10/22 it was a total pile of junk not suitable for holding up tomatoes

Mine doesn't. I have a new CZ99 and although it shoots fair I can't compare it to a 452. Even tried several brands of match ammo. The metal finish is some of the best that I have seen in years but the wood looks like stain and no finish. Maybe you got a good one, but mine is just fair.
 
I had a old thread on the ZASTAVA CZ99 I turned into a dedicated iron sighted gun (rear peep). Was shooting one hole groups at 25yds.

10/22 gets my vote. They have many accessories from the aftermrket. One i have is breakdown model, stainless synthetic. It has a bushnell 3200 3x9x40 scope. Very handy, and like pointing a wand when paper punching or punching squirrels!
 
As far as 10/22's go, they vary a lot. I have one that was very accurate with stock and more with aftermarket barrel. Some are not too accurate. I have a CZ452 American that is very accurate, I won a match with it last year, but the guy who was second matched my group with a stock 10/22. He was off center so I won but I was amazed that his older stainless 10/22 shot so well. I also have a 452 Lux that some days shoots better sometimes not than my American 452. I think it depends on the ammo.

Pawn shops. That and local classifieds. Patience is key. Be ready when the irons hot.
Plus the more you buy from the pawn shops the better your deal gets. Plus cash always works. Some deals here in Alaska, more than a few in North Carolina.
 
There are a some Remington 513T (target) Matchmasters on GB for $250'ish with bidders. There are many more above that that w/o bidders.

So my guess is that an original with factory magazine and decent sights is right in your neighborhood :)
