I'm in the market for a scope for a 10/22 that I use for hunting and for fun. anybody know of decent quality scopes (maybe 3-9 or 2.5-7) for less than $200?

I have been looking at at BSA, Simmons, Bushnell, and Nikon.
Does anybody have any suggestions?

thanks buccos

Nikon ProStaff Rimfire 3-9x40. It has a BDC reticle and great glass for just over $100.

Its about $150 less than the Leupold 2-7 Rimfire.

I cant see putting a $250 Scope on a $250 22lr that you will most likely be doing most of your shooting between 25 to 75 yards.

I have a few Ruger 10/22 takedowns and I took the scope off and replaced it with a red dot. Even though I have old eyes, I found that because I was doing most of my shooting under 75 yards I didn't need the magnification. With my red dot, I can hit an egg at 75 yards with no problem.

Just my $.02

I may be the odd man, bit I dislike BDC reticles. I don't like all the real estate the circles cover on small targets.

yeah I had been looking at the Prostaff rimfire series. I don't mind the BDC so much as long as it is not overpowering.

The Nikon rimfire scopes are nice, but, are a bit large for what they are. The wife has 4 or 5 and I have one. The one on her 10/22 RSI looks a bit large . I think becuse full length stocked rifles should look petite. On her tricked out 10/22s they look right at home. Bright and clear they have all been perfectly reliable. Something that hasn't been mentioned here is the Weaver rimfire. The 2-7 have been good scopes on several rifles in the family. Of course we have some Leupolds also. Can't go wrong there, but, are over the OP 200 dollar budget.

I would have to ask what kind of hunting? What do you typically shoot on other firearms, open sights or scope? For hunting and general shooting fun, I kept a fixed 4 power mounted on my 10/22 for many years. As a personal preference though, I like open sights. The 40 year old eye change came about and changed some of my needs to shoot accurately. After a lot of debate, I purchased a 2 1/2X Burris and have been extremely satisfied. Off hand shooting in the woods for small game greatly enhanced for me now. Just enough magnification to help and a single focal plane for the eyes. All the scopes mentioned I am sure will work, just consider your usage before going to the high magnifications. They are rarely needed for the little rimfire.

personally i like the 1.5-5s, 2-7s with objectives larger than 20mm but smaller than 40. My current scope happens to ignore that, its a 3-9x40 cableas with the simple bdc reticle. I was cheap and works good for most of what im doing The extra power and bdc reticle are nice for plinking and shooting targets at 100+, but i pretty well useless for any hunting id do as ranges would be much shorter.

I like the leupold 2-7 rimfire because it is smaller. The 10/22 looks funny with a big scope on it. That said, I kinda wish I had saved 50 bucks and bought the Weaver rimfire instead.

I'm a big fan of the Leupold RF scopes. The RF fire models of interest, as they do offer a very high end EFR model, are the 2-7x and the 4x. I have the 4x on my 39A, which rocks with that old level gun. My 2-7x is on the 10/22 and is perhaps the most accurate field RF I have.

Now back to the original question, the Leupolds will be above the $200 mark, but not enough to take them out of consideration.

yeah I had been looking at the Prostaff rimfire series.
I've had a silver Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 on a stainless 10/22 for a few years. Dead reliable and good bang for the buck. Nikon Prostaff is certainly a step up in quality and even though Leupold has changed the pricing policy on rimfire series scopes during last few years, they're still worth every cent. It boils down to how much you want to spend and what your expectations are.

I have a Weaver K4 on mine. I've hit ground hogs in the head with it at 70 yards. About $150

I've always used scopes on rifles. I will be hunting rabbits, and I also would like some magnification for picking off cans.

I don't care for centerfire scopes on a .22 unless they have SideFocus or AO. At the ranges I shoot my Model 60, 50 yard set parallax is better than 100 yard.

Had a Ruger 10/22 with a Leupold 2-7X rimfire. Liked the set-up, but never liked the rifle so I sold it. Wish I would have kept the scope.

Leupold IIRC will change the parallax on some scopes for $25 plus shipping.
So a big game scope could be changed to rimfire application.
And this conversion can be done to the new Redfield Revolution scopes as well.
I have a VX3 2.5-8X on my 10/22 that needs to be converted. At 50 yards I am maxed at 6X for focus.
Did run a 4X compact on an old 572 BDL..........worked fine.
Buddy has a 4X Weaver Marksman on his, been there since the 80's. Kills stuff dead.
Not ideal, but very usable.
I had a Redfield Rev 2-7X on my 10/22 for a spell

Buddy put a Burris rimfire 2-7X new production, on a 39A, says it works fine.
Personally, on a classic rig..........IMHO nothing looks as good as a Leupold.
Picked up a pre 68 572...........proly get a 4X used and send it in for conversion.

I normally adjust it when i put a centerfire scope on a rimfire...never did it with the expensive ones, but i do it all the time with my cheaper ones.

I know it's over the $200 mark, but another vote for the 2-7x28mm Leupold rimfire scope. I have one on my CZ452FS and think it's a great scope. It seems to be perfectly sized for most of the smaller .22 rifles. And with Leupold's service and warranty, its hard to go wrong.

(I also have one of the higher end Leupold rimfire scopes, a VX-II 3-9x33mm EFR, on a CZ452 American. The difference in the glass is quite apparent side by side, but the 3-9x EFR blows the $200 budget completely away, and may be a bit overkill on a 10/22 carbine.)

I had a 3-9X EFR on a .243 Remington 600.
That scope wasn't too big.
Proly should kept it, was older version but pretty nice.
FWIW got my Burris aluminum .22 rings today, so took my spare VX1 2-7X and put that on my 572 Remington.
