Same/comparable/close powders under different labels

Rob Behr at Ramshot confirmed this for me. Silhouette is WAP, at least according to Handloader Magazine. Load data is fully interchangeable. That's exact enough for me.

Been watching to see what would be said here. Have seen it stated several other places as well.

Hodgdon did not buy IMR. They acquired IMR Powders of New York, the distributor. The factory in Canada remains under General Dynamics.
What they did was to get H4227 from ADI (now Thales) in Australia and IMR4227 from IMR in Canada.
Then they rolled it all into one source. Then they quit listing H4227. I think what is now labeled IMR4227 may be from Australia, but I don't have a fresh can to look at.

Hodgdon has maneuvered and manipulated powder sources and labels that you need a Secret Decoder Ring to figure out what you have.

After Hodgdon bought IMR they stopped selling ADI manufactured H4227 as H4227. They put it into cans labeled IMR4227 and sold the ADI stuff as IMR4227 and "discontinued" H4227. I purchased a can of IMR4227 labeled "Made in Australia" in 2011. To muddy up the water even more, in 2014 I picked up six pounds of IMR4227 from a couple different LGSs and they were all labeled "Made in Canada." This was during the big powder shortage after the 2012 election so this was not old stock as powder was disappearing as soon as it hit the shelves. That and the cans have 2014 lot numbers. Good luck getting your decoder ring to figure out that one. :scrutiny:

AA 4100 and Enforcer are the exact same powder. Rob Behr at Ramshot confirmed this for me. Silhouette is WAP, at least according to Handloader Magazine. Load data is fully interchangeable. That's exact enough for me.

Thanks, never saw that before until looking through Western Powder's data. I knew that about WAP and Silhouette though. :)

There are two lovex d036 powders and only one is the aa#5. Auto pistol and ultimate pistol are d036.03 and d036.07. You can't just call it d036

Actually, there are more - 1, 3, 5, 7, and 8.
explosia_doublebase.jpg

Shooters world only carries the 3 and 7. They list the .7 as close to autocomp in burn rate - somewhere between Accurate #2 and #5.

But, yes, you are right. You can't just call it D036.

Black label can = Win 231
White label can = HP-38
Both one pound cans were filled on March 07, 2016
Both have the same batch number - 2448

The clincher... both have the same defect in the second '0' in the date

I'd say that these two cans of powder absolutely were filled on the same machine in the same factory, and the HP-38 I bought today looks exactly the same as the Win 231 I bought several years ago.

I've been using Titewad for over a year now in several calibers. Small plinking loads in large cases like .38 spl, and in small auto cases like .380 and .32acp for full power loads. I started using it because I was trying to push .32acp to CiP levels, which is where my guns were proofed at, using the usual suspects, W231 and Bullseye. But nothing was moving, changes in powder levels just weren't making changes in velocity. I concluded I needed a faster powder to get to the levels I was attemping.

After looking at everybody's burn rate charts, I noticed Vhitavuori's chart was different, and in the case of Titewad really different. They listed it as the fastest powder, even faster than Norma R-1. That told me they do their own testing, and were confident enough in their testing to publish something going against the grain. You don't do that in a technical subject like gunpowder without having your ducks in a line and quacking. Given their rep, I was willing to listen.

Long story short, I think they are right. I tried to get data from Hodgdon and St. Marks for Quickload calculations (it's not in the QL database), but Hodgdon doesn't have it and St. Marks isn't responsive.

I can say it solved my .32acp load handily, took a while to creep up on it because there is very little published data for this stuff, so very slow and careful, but I got the exact level I was looking for, and have no doubt if someone made a strong barrel for testing, this stuff could push .32acp to 1400fps or more. The level I ended up with is a little over 50% case fill, and exceeds SAAMI, but meets CiP levels.

It burns very clean, best I've ever seen, and is not very position sensitve which makes it great for light target loads. I'm using that property to develope medium strength loads in .32H&R and .327 which seem to aggrivate position sensitiity. W231 for instance in my .327 changes 200fps depending on wherher I start muzzle down or up. Bullseye is better, but I can still detect it easily. Titewad is hard to detect.

I had a list of St. Marks products Hodgdon buys, and the St. Marks product number for Titewad was one of a kind.

So perhaps we should pair Titewad with E3 (fastest burning Alliant powder) instead of Clays?

IF you could confirm E³ is a St. Marks product, then that would be reasonable. Otherwise, the lack of data from both Hodgdon and St. Marks makes me think Titewad is unique (but not Unique of course). Vhitavuori is pretty definite about where they think it is, and list it a level ahead of E³, and 2 levels ahead of Nitro 100, WST and R1!

OK. We can remove Titewad and E3 from the comparable list until we have further confirmation.

What really needs to happen ...is to get all the dust settled out as close as possible ... giving a little time for some emails to be answered .... then clean up the list and have a "sticky" made with a Date ... like this list is "good" as of 2/1/2016 .... we all know this is an ever changing deal ... especially with the over seas powders made by one makers ...then 6 months later being made by another under the same name ...

Same needs happen with the "Where Stuff is made Thread" ....

I think BDS is the one to handle it ....

HS 7 / W 571 was in post #3 ... got over looked ... this is what I mean by letting the dust settle ... then make a "final" list for that time .... to be updated and the date changed as needed ...
How about W296 and H110? I consider them same.

And the claim that 300MP is close to W296/H110?
How about H110 and V110 ?
