The youtube "gun guys".....some are pretty fun to watch, some can give you an unbiased view, some can't find their a$$ with both hands.....and those $$ are there because they are now using their "fame" to get cash from tons of idiots.

So how about a good place to put reviews on youtube presenters.....try to take the high road on the ones you think are clowns, someone somewhere might like that guy....and we might be able to tell that person that likes that idio.....err guy why he is not the best source for info.

I will start:

Hickock45....he is fun to watch....a little long winded at times, but seems to not have too much of a bias in his videos....he likes what he likes but does not put down a given brand or people that like a given type or brand of.....whatever.

TFBTV.....same deal, fun to watch....a little different take....different guys...some I like more over others....but generally no real bad mouthing....and I usually come away with an...I did not know that moment from their videos.

On the fence....scootch....pretty popular channel and I do watch a video from time to time....he has an air to him....comes across to me as a my *(*$ does not stink and I know more then you....and you might...but I am just better then you....reminds me of SEAL guys I know....they all have an I am better then you attitude....goes with the job I guess....but guess what that cigar does not make you more of a man...you are still just a short little know it all that I can take or leave.

The only one I just can't stand is someone whos name ends in 88.....wonder who that is. He is pretty clueless....and does not really know what he thinks he knows....a true youtube expert....pretty popular and that is a worry to me.....this kind of guy needs to just go away.

I posted a thread the other day on Chris Bartocci of The Small Arms Channel. This guy is legit. He worked for Colt for years and has worked at a high level with their foreign military contracts. Has also worked for LMT and consulted for many others. He offers an "insider perspective" . Very informative on firearm history as well. Definitely recommend checking him out. My new favorite, but I also like Hickock45 for entertainment and MrGunsandGear does good reviews.

active self protection channel, videos of self defense shootings for the most part with commentary on what they did right and wrong. The good guy doesn't always make it. Mistakes are often where you learn the most and that is the point.

I enjoy hickok45. Mainly for his goofy sense of humor and I really enjoy watching him shoot. MrGunsnGear is good as well. He does pretty good reviews. I can't stand nutnfancy at all. He is so dang long winded and something about him just rubs me the wrong way.

Yea, not a fan of Nutnfancy. I like his channels concept of "he cant be bought" but the videos are long and I have flat out heard him give wrong info about a product he was reviewing.

Making a decent video is not easy. My Stetson is off to those folks who do a lot of them. When I bought a used MAC a few years ago, I started playing with the built-in APP, iMovie, and it's a lot of fun to put photos and video clips together in a production, but making the finished product into something worth viewing takes some time. I admire the guys who take the time to produce enough material for a dedicated channel.

I am not knowledgable enough to be a regular "gun presenter" or "reviewer", but I have posted a couple of shooting related videos on YouTube. I did not want to be just another old guy talking into the camera so I took a different approach. If you don't like my choice of background music, at least you can turn the audio down and still get the information from the captions. I'm kinda showing my butt by posting these links, and I don't expect everyone to like them, but wanted to show that there is more than one way to make a gun-related video.

One on the 1851 Navy Colt revolver:

One on hand spring repair:

I stand ready for critique!! :)

JohnBlitz:
Excellent reminder of the 'Self Protection Channel', which taught me that when an armed guy enters a store, he might have an Unnoticed armed (female) accomplice who stays at a very deceptive distance,
and she is there to Kill You when you intervene. This happened in a WalMart or such.

His channel appears to be far more graphic and instructional than any other self-defence channel.

The guy even reviews some of the wide variety of videotaped armed events in Brazil, with evaluations of actions or missed opportunities etc. A number of participants must be full time undercover LEOs.

Not one mention for FPS RUSSIA? come on, "as always helv nice day...!"

He was fun a few years ago.....now not too active. Guess that bit of....bad luck?....set him back a bit.

How about demolition ranch....stumbled across his channel after watching Vet Ranch. If you love animals check out vet ranch....the guys do good work.

Dont know if he is legit or not. but my first experience with him was the other day when someone here posted one of his videos... Watching paint dry might have been more exciting + he is a fanboy..
no thanks.

Iraqveteran8888? Probably the most intelligent of the gun channels. Considering he actually is a gun smith from Senora, which is a top gun smith program.

Hickock45, YankeeMarshall, tnoutdoors9, Shootingthebull410, and Gunblast are all other good channels that I follow. NutNFancy and stuff like that are just idiots with guns and cameras.

Ian with both Forgotten Weapons and InRange TV. The latter having quite a lot of 2 gun stuff.
My new addiction is Chap and Bloke with Bloke on the Range (we really need to get Bloke over here on THR).

I think my favorite is the Yankee Marshall. I like his self deprecating style of humor, and he is pretty bright.
Iraqveteran8888 is another one I like to watch. I can sit through most of their uploads without getting too bored.
The rest of em? I dunno, I'll watch bits and pieces of a lot of them, but get pretty choosy about what I'll sit through.

I don't spend a lot of time with videos at all for anything. I'd rather read or actually be doing stuff.

MAC, Hickock, IV8888, MR GunsNgear, Active Self Protection, The late Boy Scout, Yankee Marshall (mostly for comic relief), Ak operators union.

I like Vickers Tactical, especially when reviewing different types of weapons.

Jerry Miculek is also entertaining

Paul Harrell He has a meat target for evaluating bullet performance that is worth a watch. His videos are straight forward.

Larry Potterfield- Good gunsmithing vids but he has a series about rating various handguns for personal defense and it's just a joke.

TFBTV- Excellent for firearms news but I'm not a fan of many of their videos or shall I say the personalities therein. Obinionated and sometimes snobbish.

Yankee Marshal- Not bad but his sense of humor relies on the same setups and gaffs in every video, often he will start by acting as if he dislikes something and then makes remarks clearly indicating he was being facetious and enjoys whatever he is "bashing", he does this constantly and it gets old.

Hickok45- America's shooting buddy. The kind older Granpa or Uncle of the online gun community. Beloved.

Military Arms Channel- Honest, humble and information rich videos. Very cool guy.

Mr Guns and Gear- Much like the above, his vids are great and he doesn't try to be some sort of badass.

Nutnfancy- Kind of hard to take at times but you won't find more thorough gun reviews on the internet and also brutally honest. Lots of guys hate him. Lots of guys love him. I lean towards the later.

Gunblast- Some nice good old boys there. I very much like Jeff Quinn as a person but think is online articles are more interestingng and much more informative than his videos which are often very brief and lacking in substance.

Sootch00- Almost seems afraid to critisize any guns or products, does not come off as particularly honest but his reviews are pretty good if you go in to them expecting a bunch of "really likes".

Capandball- a black powder channel and one of my favorites. Rare to find such high quality and interesting vides on black powder guns and history.

Those are the major ones I can think of now but am subscribed to many more that I enjoy.

Agree. IV8888 has produced over 800 videos. 100 on reloading and 82 Gunsmithing. A lot of good stuff in there and his gun reviews are on par with many. He (like any other You Tube guy) is going to take flack regardless of how well they do, do not do, or how much they know or seem to know. Me personally I try not to lose focus on what someone is contributing. To me he's a big contributor to the You Tube firearm community.

My first criteria for watching a youtube presenter is that they must be actually making videos--as opposed to being video commentators. I'm not going to sit through several minutes of someone who's basically doing nothing but talking with their face on the screen and maybe including a few still shots of what they're talking about. I go to youtube to see videos--moving pictures of the thing that interests me--not just to watch someone's face while they talk. If all I want is words and mostly still shots then I look for articles written on the topic, not videos.

He isnt the most entertaining, mostly table top reviews. He broke his back a while ago and is planning some videos with the guns on the range. He is one of the most knowledgeable on weapons systems and history I have come across though. Who do you think he is a fanboy of? LMT? Thats the company he usually praises the most, but he says because he has worked for them and knows how they operate as far as quality/quality/control. I have a hard time calling him a "fan boy" because he also worked for Colt and did a not so flattering video on the Expanse basically saying its not a real colt. He seems to tell it like it is IMO

Hickok45 is entertaining and informative. He has his biases but does very honest reviews. I always look up his videos when considering a new gun.
Don't forget the hilariously tacticool Range Time with Erica and Pee Wee Herman's son.
