It's an Aero lower with a simple M4 stock, and a PSA 18'' .223 Wylde upper. I'm interested in replacing the stock to something that gives me a slightly longer LOP, because I believe I need that to help me hold the rifle better. Or I could simply be looking for reasons to spend money on changing it.

I'll eventually want to replace the handguards for a foregrip, but that can wait.

To increase LOP you might have to go to a fixed A2 stock. That requires a new buffer tube, spring and buffer. It's not hard at all. Remove the castle nut and retaining plate, unscrew the carbine tube and screw the new tube in. Make sure the remove the buffer and spring first and keep a hand on the little buffer retainer and spring as they will pop out as you unscrew the tube. The selector spring and detent will come out as well when you remove the retaing plate. I know it sounds like a lot but it really is very simple. YouTube has plenty of videos on how to make the swap. Though now that I think of it the M4 stock fully extended should be about the same as the A2... I'll measure mine when I get home and see.

When you say replace the hand guards for a fore grip do you mean add a fore grip to the guards or swap the guards out for a float tube that will accept a grip? I'm a little confused on that point.
 
Oooh, a fixed A2 stock would make it sort of look like an M16, which is always a huge plus.

When I say handguards, I mean the bits that go over the barrel and gas tube. Something that can accept accessories.

Unless you have extra long monkey arms, try changing your stance before changing the stock. Square up to the rifle, like a Russian.
 
Another option for adding a bit of length are the snap on recoil pads, they can give you .5-1"

Thats a good looking rifle, congrats. Once you start changing parts and adding stuff it's really hard to stop.
 
Whaaaaa? No mlok? Where are the lasers and flash lights? Vertical foregrip, 45° flip sights and a single point sling are a must. If that BCG isn't NiB treated I'mma flip. Can you even Chris Kyle with that thing??? You better buy 15 pounds of accessories for that rifle or nobody will take you seriously.

Magpul CTR with a extended buttpad should get you in the up to 14" LoP range for 6'+ men using a traditional bladed stance. If you've got monkey arms, change to an AR10 buffer tube (and spacer). Don't use an AR10 spring. It will appear to work fine but the buffer will get too much of a running start against your LRHO and eventually break it.

It's an m4 stock...2 zip ties and a rolled up wash rag will tell you if you want longer or not. Realistically you might just want something different. The m4 stock feels small and brickish...washrag solves that too. They do make butt pads for the m4 stock, but I have never seen one in use. Kinda speaks to how well they function I would assume.

I personally despise the feel of an m4 stock. My rifle wears a fixed stock (Magpul MOE) my carbine wears a collapsible (Magpul MOE) and my pistol wears a fancy little padded skirt around the buffer tube which serves absolutely no purpose. I picked each of these the same way, by handling guns at the shop til I found something I liked. I even got one used from a buddy and saved a bunch of money.

I am 6'3'', which makes what you described sound real nice, but I think I'll work on stances and try to fix it that way. The complaint that I have is my shooting hand (right) needs to bend at the wrist too much while gripping. I'm talking a hard 90* angle when trying to get a good shooting grip.

Vltor A5 system might be worth looking into for increasing LOP . The buffer tube is longer and it will enhance the performance of the gun as well. Not the cheapest option though. You would need a A5 buffer tube and the correct springs/buffer. BCM and Magpul sell a version of the A5 system as well
 
With an 18" barrel,you are not trying to hide the rifle so why not put a Magpul Fixed carbine stock with a medium recoil pad for an inch or so extension., I have one on one of my Smith 15-22's and with a scope and bipod it makes a great distance plinker. That stock maintains the sporting look much better than the A2 and you keep the same extension and buffer.

No, your pretty wrong with your assumption. A lot of people use them and like them. Yes, they function very well. Some folks are not in the position to upgrade their rifles with new commercial stocks and other tacticool items, they limited to a few personal changes, if any. Not only do you get a bit longer LOP, you get a wider and better fit for some. Not for everyone, but some like them. Only about $10 to get one. Like LoonWulf said, you can even extend it farther with a little effort.

You also might be interested in putting a side saddle for your original stock. They add a custom look, space for batteries and a better cheek rest. The link below is for one, you can find others at Academy and other stores. One of my ARs has one installed, took a bit of fitting to deal with the rubber pad, but was not that hard. So for a few extra bucks or so you can upgrade your current look.

An H2 or maybe an H3 buffer should work if you're going to keep the current receiver extension. At least I think it would.

I'm 6'3" or at least I was before my 40s. Also have short legs/long torso/long arms for my height. I don't like NTCH for that exact same reason (besides that fact that I feel no need to square off my non-existent body armor off to a coyote or deer). I'd rather have one natural stance for all rifles--no matter how light or heavy the recoil.

I'll give the limbsavers a try. Can't hurt going with a slightly wider and softer shoulder pad.

Last time I tried shooting nose to charging handle, the rifle punched me in the nose. Not comfortable and weird.
