i think the best over counter small to medium game and just plain plinking fun cap lock rifles ever made, was the thompson center seneca- cherokee rifles in .32-36-45 calibers. earlier this month i picked up the seneca-45, now i have all three calibers. top rifle is a .45 (the one i bought this month), the second rifle is a seneca .36 and the third is a cherokee in .32. oh how i wish they would have made them in flint lock, even with the shorter barrels i would have bought half a dozen. they are light, accurett and easy on powder-lead. eastbank.

I owned a nice little Cherokee in 45 for a few seasons. I traded it away. I could not get my face low enough into the stock to shoot it with any kind of accuracy. The, I believe its called, drop in the stock was just too high for me. It was a pretty little wall hanger and no fault of the gun.
I had a smith install a weaver base on it and ran an Aimpoint on it for a couple of seasons, only way I could use it. I'd pull the base off season so I could put it on view. The original owner wanted it back five years later and we swapped again.

i just never warmed up to the cva small rifles, a friend had one and it was a pain in the arse to keep running. i had a green river .32 caliber barrel for a thompson hawkin, but it was a heavy beast. eastbank.

i own several pedersoli rifles(flint and cap) and one pedersoli 10ga cap lock double barrel shotgun and they all have been good firearms. eastbank.

Our CVA locks run just fine but I have heard of folks having trouble with them. Don't forget that L&R makes replacement locks for both the large and small styles in both percussion and flint.

Been wanting a T/C .32 for squirrel. It would probably get me interested in hunting again. Hitting them with a 100yd-capable rifle is just too easy anymore.

I have a New Englander (need a shotgun barrel!) and the wife has one of their Hawken rifles. She's 5' and that's something to see her shoot.

Those rifles are better quality than those I owned prior to them.

Regards,

Josh

my RCM flint lock has a L&R lock on it and it is a very well made lock with a super sparker frizzen. what i realy like is that the frizzen when shut fits into the recess in the pan, that stops the powder from leaking out of the pan, like many locks allow due to poor fitting. eastbank.

Eastbank, You are a knowledgeable BP shooter. The proper lock on a flint lock makes or breaks the satisfaction of owning a flint lock. The quality flint locks have proper geometry and properly and fitted frizzens. :)
